Captain retrain tokens
A retrain token is awarded at each rank
Additional retrain tokens may be purchased from the c-store
This has me rather concerned, especially the last line.
At present on Tribble you get respec tokens, and once you deplete them the system seems to still be using Starfleet Merits to pay for a respec.
But once the Merit system is gone... then what?
Is Cryptic going to take away our ability to grind for respecs and "force" us to "pay" for them once we have used up our free ones?

by purchasing C-points from players with your dilithium.
just keep your fingers crossed that the Dilithium / C-point "auction system" actually ends up being practical.
I meant in the same way you currently use Marit/Honor now, it would simply be a different currency.
But converting dilithium into C-points for a respec (or anything else from the C-store) will be dependent on an untested system. We have no way of knowing how many players will actually be purchasing C-points for the sole purpose of selling them for Dilithium. In order for this to work out, there needs to be large price tag Dilithium gear . . . which is surely going to garner mass complaints.
So, like I said, cross your fingers and hope the "Dilithium for C-points auction system" actually thrives.
This system sounds alot like what EVE does (well, exactly like what EVE does) . . . but unlike STO, EVE has some major currency items / ships. STO just doesn't have the range of ships / gear or depth of gameplay to warrant massive Dilithium expenditures.
It won't... This is Cryptic, not CCP. I still can't, for the life of me, understand why people would want to trade real money for currency with no RL value.
A game economy that depends on the use of "real money" at any point is FAIL.
Not to mention sheer idiocy.
From what i see right now its: Gold members get free respec tokens per rank, after that they must buy them with Cryptic points.
I sincerly hope this won't remain the case, and that it will be possible to respec by another means.
Though personally I think gold members should get access to an exclusive mission that rewards respec tokens once a week.
To be fair: We currently have to buy retrain tokens from the C-Store if we didn't have any tokens or merits, anyway.
Except we do have the option of grinding for merits right now.
It is the possible loss of that option that concerns me.
I have respecced more times than I can count on my main character, and i have "never" bought a respec from the C-Store.
Not to mention putting it in the control of greed driven players.
Just look at the AH on Holodeck to know what I am talking about.
As long as the exchange rate of dilithium to C-Store points is set and controlled by Cryptic and not set by players.
I would expect this to be one of many things to trade dilithium for.
Whenever you purchase C-points they are in bundles (or, in the near future, when you are awarded your monthly stipend as a subber). When you buy things from C-store you always have a few C-points left (right now I have 35 on my account after making a Character Slots purchase).
In my case, for example, 35 C-points isn't really that big of a deal . . . one day I might decide to throw em up for Dilithium and see how much I can get for 'em. Maybe the Auction System will thrive on numerous small purchases of these left over C-points.
There's no way I'll humor Cryptic for even *1* C-point on the dilithium exchange!
Except, you can save up those small leftovers from multiple purchases... it's still money...
Welcome to Perfect World control.
On STOked episode 100, Heinig just confirmed that players actually selling off left over C-points is something they're expecting and hoping will help drive the system. So we'll see.
Now you understand just what a business does.
Good buisness is treatining your customers right so they keep coming back.
Driving them away is very bad buisness.
It's not like you'll **** up picking good skills five/six times. (or at the very least, the vast majority of people won't.)
And your point would be?
Not everyone respecs because they TRIBBLE up.
A lot of people, including me actually like to vary our playstyle during the year and a half we have had some of our toons.
I've alternated between Escorts, Science ships and Cruisers more times than I can count.
And thats not even counting the times I have respecced for different weapon types.
