Voice NPC´s ?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Im new to the STO and I got good impressions in the first 5 hrs of game. But the only thing that I really don´t like is the non synthesizer voice npc´s. That gives a felling for me of non emotional, static game, I dunno. There´s some development in this area of game?

There are a few missions that are fully voiced or mostly voiced.

In the future, last I heard, the plan is for characters to occasionally "bark" like the NPCs do in WoW when you click on them and save full voiceover for cutscenes.

Is it wrong that I'm a picturing a Klingon BOff saying "woof woof" lol

the first voice you hear in the game is not "synthesized" its the guy who plays spock in the new Star trek movie. he's playing an EMH In that set of voice overs. which is not like the good ol' doctor from Voy, he IS non-emotional static in tone.... now if your referring to other voi9ces.... blame that on the voice acting.

They're working the tutorial in as a high level mission. Personally, although it risks lacking the clarity, I'd like the new tutorial to use more of a McCoy or Tucker type voice or maybe a Riker. Someone with some wit and a more developed sense of humor.

I think it winds up feeling TOO emotionless with Quinto playing not just a Vulcan but a holographic Vulcan -- and he was totally unfamiliar with Picardo's EMH when he did it, based on interviews.

Agreed, we've made leaps and bounds in voice over since beta but there is still plenty of room to grow. Many Star Trek actors have done voice work (Patrick Stewart and Michael Dorn to name just 2). Why not try and get some of them to be their characters in the game (Worf, for example), or find some other decent voice actors?

I wish they would've gotten Robert Picardo to voice the EMH. I realize that only the Mark I was actually modeled after Zimmerman, and therefore future models wouldn't sound like Picardo.. but it's quite obvious from the dialogue that they were trying to go for the smug sense of importance that the Robert Picardo EMH was quite fond of. I mean, at the end, he even tells your captain "Maybe one day you'll come to think of me as a father figure".

I just don't think Zachary Quinto is capable of delivering lines like that, as he specializes in emotionless characters, such as Syler(from heroes, who was a sociopath, the human equivalent of a Vulcan gone wrong), and Spock.

Hi I'm new to the game and not sure what's happening with the NPCs voices. For the first few hours there were voice overs and such now there is nothing and I have to stop missions and read everything that happens.
I spent ages thinking it was my audio settings but from what I've read it seems like NPCs just aren't being voiced after the initial few missions.
    Can anyone help answer?

    Hi roninmic1, Welcome to STO.

I'm assuming you're talking about the federation missions. Unfortunately yeah, STO's missions when originally created did not have any voice overs. In the four years since launch a number of missions including the Tutorial, Diplomatic Orders, Stranded in Space and The Doomsday machine have been reworked to include voices overs and other improvements. In addition to newer missions.

As for the missions that have not been reworked they are still without voice over. So unfortunately you are going to have to continue to read until you get to the newer stuff.

Also, Please note the date of the posts in this thread. They go back to September 2011. Going back to a really old inactive thread like this is generally considered bad forum etiquette. It's better just to create a new thread rather than dredging up the half rotten corpses of forum posts from the past.

    Hey hey now!

BAD ZOMBIE BAD GO BACK TO THE GROUND!

Seriously folks, if a thread hasn't been responded to in 30 days please don't bring it back up :( If you feel you need to continue the thread by all means make a new one! :)

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.
