Please tell me that you're still going to honor the purchases of the Lifetime sub, as I'm another week away from buying it :(

    (I need that borg!)

I think this will be a great move for STO and hopefully it will be bring more a lot of players. Plus, as a LTS I can't wait to get a stipend of Cryptic Points.

    Now we just need FE4.

I support this as well and hope you look at how Turbine handled lifer accounts when they went FTP.

It's about time :) Congratulations on the move, I can only hope it improves the future for the game, and that you guys don't try to Nickle 'n' Dime us like Turbine have...

Indeed, Turbine has an excellent F2P model, please look into this. It wouldn't hurt to just check it out, also I'm sure Lifers will get extra benefits. They did with CO, they won't let STO lifers get sidelined.

You can earn TP with deed completions, if they applied this system to the accolade system it would be a great addon. It would make our accolades a worth while thing to go out and earn.

Looking forward to reading the details on this. I have always liked the idea of F2P, personally.

You've got to wonder were the devs expecting to come to work today with the beans spilt, or was this a slip up from perfect world. :D

A lot more players to do what exactly? There's been no substantial amount of new content for what seems has been an eternity.

More than likely we'll get free points every month and be VIP forever. I don't see a downside.

If they handle it the way Turbine handled lifers, you'll be more than compensated for your faith in the game.

paying a lifetime subscription means you're paying to play the game for however long it lasts, NOT however long until it went F2P

also, in a lot of F2P games, lifetimes and subscribers get free C-Store points to spend every minute (called differently in other games, but basically the same)

there's almost literally no downside to it

Better be a veritable Fort Knox of free credits, given how overpriced most of the C-Store is.

Oh no you're supposed to be pleased.

You still have access to everything you do now. The new model apparently means the players playing for free have less access to things such as possibly the foundry, featured episodes ect. For example, the c store will have its prices jacked up higher but you likely will get a stipend of points (say 400) a month which means if you want that new uber ship (like the gal-x) it will now be 3200 points instead of 2000. So you either play for more points or wait to save up enough. Yay!

Guessing it will be roughly 400-500, not enough for tons of high cost stuff. But, also not a bad number IMO

It's doubtful they'll backstab lifers, since its going F2P, they'll count on every person spending money in the CStore. Lifers still bring in revenue, I've purchased quite a bit of things as it stands.

I have a Lifetime LOTRO account, I don't feel like they are trying to Nickle n Dime me at all, in fact I've never purchased Turbine Points at all. I suppose it depends on how patient a person is vs wanting stuff right this second.

I would love to see Accolades offer Cryptic Points for completion, just like LOTRO deeds give points.

I hope that there's a way to distinguish between subs and f2p players while in game. I'll continue to pay monthly as long as the game continues to have fresh content.

I hope that the Foundry creation is limited to subs as well.

Overall not really a surprise. Hopefully this will get more new players into the game.

I also think this was a wise move with SW:TOR coming out at the end of the year. I know a lot of people that planned to drop STO to play SW. I personally plan to play both.

Hopefully us lifers will get a C-Point allowance much like Champions.

    Thanks,
    Duncan

I was ticked last night when I heard this. Now I'm the wait-and-see part of this. I hope this doesn't ruin this game. And I wonder, like many how f2p and the incomplete KDF are going to work.

When was the last time we had fresh content?

Ah, and I thought that this was going to be the announcement with FAQ, Matrix, and everything else a week early.

As I stated in another thread about this:

"this move to the hybridized F2P model doesn't have me concerned one bit. At worst, I'll continue to play for "free" and still have all of the content. At best, I'll also have a monthly stipend of CP to spend as well."
