Good Geforce Graphics Card for STO?

I recently began assembling a new PC for playing STO:

Sandy Bridge i5 Quad Core 3.3 Ghz
8 Gb of Ram
750 Corsair PSU
500gb 7200 RPM HDD

I only play STO on my PC, everything else is console gaming...so before anyone says OVERKILL...my stepfather told me when tomorrow is aged and next week could be obsolete, always build ahead when it comes to PC's

My only item left to get is my Graphics Card.

I am currently playing STO on a 3.0ghz Pentium 4 with 4gb of ram and a Geforce 9600GT 512mb Card.

I am told STO has issues with the 400 and 500 series cards in the Geforce line so I should get a 9000 series card? Would my 9600GT 512mb card work okay? I maxed the graphics once on my PC and they looked gorgeous but the lag was so bad I couldn't move..(Is that CPU or GPU related?)

Anyhow I was looking at getting a Geforce 9800 GT 1gb from ebay....would that be a good upgrade to the card I have?

AND before someone suggests a Radeon card, plz dont bother, I dont like Radeons ...only NVIDIA, thanks:)

I upgraded my old 8800 to a gtx 560 recently. Mostly becasuse Darth Stahl was whining about people still using old graphics cards. It actually did make quite a difference. A lot of details and effects became visible with the new card, like some smoke effects and clothing details.

The down side to the card I am using is that it takes two power supplies and was huge and hard to fit. I had to really mash it it get it into the motherboard, actually supprised it didn't break. Plus it cost about 250 dollars. Also, most games are designed for rubbishy consoles, so they don't utilise the power of a modern gfx card.
