GameClient.exe has crashed

This is wierd so I thought I'd throw myself at the mercy of the Forum :)

When I first installed the game everything was fine and dandy in my Trek amongst the stars. After shutting down for the night and logging back in the next day the game crashes after a few seconds. It either crashes if I'm on the character select screen or if I click into the game quickly and start to try and do things in-game. If I do get logged in in time I can do things like open the map or start to move the ship around but then i get the "GameClient.exe has crashed" message and that's it. The same message appears if it stops responding while I'm on the character select screen.

I have forced Verification numerous times and the furthest it ever gets is to abour 40194 before it goes to "Engage" so this makes me think there's an issue there, but cannot work out why simply shutting down the computer should make the game stop working. Running the game in safe mode makes no difference either, still crashes after a few seconds.

I have now re-installed the game twice on different drives on my computer and both times the game works fine until after I shut down and restart the computer. Very frustrating as you can probably imagine. I'd rather not have to download the game every time I want to log in to play :)

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Do you have a firewall or antivirus or spyware up? Sometimes it considers some files downloaded from the game bad and doesn't use them. Hence the game crashes because those files are needed.

Thx for the response. Yes I have AVG running but have checked the logs and it doesn't show it as having blocked or quarantined any files from Star Trek.

It's curious how it seems time based as opposed to action based though. Regardless of whether i actually click past the character selection screen or not it still crashes with the same message.

Hopefully the nice support people will eventually wake up and read my Ticket :)

Doubt you will get a response fast. Try turning your firewall and anti virus off. Some people have the same issues you mentioned and just turning them off allowed the game to play fine. Sometimes, those small data packets coming it could be considered harmful and stopped. Those lost bits are reasons the game crashes.
