Seriously Devs, the Klingon hairstyles are VERY annoying

I'm sure it's been said before but I'm just baffled about the lack of hairstyles, I'm even more baffled by what options we do have. Personally, maybe I'm wrong, but I can even see a lot of the Fed hairstyles being easily suitable for a Klingon and I'm just lost as to why those hairstyles can't just be transferred over.

The options are all dreads and then the receding hairline and top knot, and that's pretty much it. I've tried and tried to think back to all the ST episodes I've seen that had Klingons and I can NOT for the life of me remember one Klingon that had dreads. Did the Khitomer Accords lead to KDF becoming more familiar with Earth culture and grew a fascination with Reggae?

"ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY WARRIOR, BOB MARLEY!!!!"

Limited hairstyles I can sort of deal with, but who decided that 80% of Klingons would have dreads?

I just imagine my Klingon warrior going to his quarters and singing "What I've Got" by Sublime in a very monotonous, grumbly tone.

Agreed. Not one Klingon has dreads, in any episode. Why is that all they get here?

Remember how many people complained that ESD looked nothing like the ESD that was in the shows and movies?

Same thing here. A poor design decision made back when the game was in beta. (Which means I'm not really going to hold the current employees too responsible for this, but I do still blame the company overall). There are a lot of examples of the game not being very cognizant of details. This is one of those examples. Look at the "Season 4: Crossfire" banner at the top of each forum. Look at that awesome Klingon Warrior, bat'leth in hand. Look at that hairstyle. Doesn't look like dreads to me.

    /sigh

Oh and let's not forget that new Hair Tech has been in the works since season 1. Still back burnered.

Yup, just like everything else on the KDF side of the fence...doubt we'll even get our man-skirts today in the C-Store...... because of Borg delays.....
Dang it, where is my change of hairstyle?.. The dreds clip into everything...not just 1 costume but ALL, they look nothing like regular Klinks...where are our little changes?...they give us a new social zone and leave?...bah... It's not like it takes alot of programming to change a hairstyle.... I hate to gripe, but it's the little things that are most distressing....

Oh the klingon update were confirm delayed.

I love to see real klingon hair options in game but I doubt it happen. Past track record indicates the klingon get promise, delays and then most thing put on chopped block. Then more delays then final we get less then 1/2 of what was promised.

heh, just once I'd like to see something new released for the KDF first and the federation second.

It'd be something completely new and different.

Yes, this is completely true.... I would like to see how approachable PW is to have fans on the KDF side provide overwhelming support to have them get the devs seriously working on KDF side with much much more content/extra perk/customization releases...
I would like to see if we could do that, what's the worst that could happen? KDF gets some needed items and the feds sit and wait for a spell.....lol.... :D

note the sarcasm in this post... :D

After taking a walk thru Memory-Alpha,

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Klingon

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Category:Klingons

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Unnamed_Klingons

    I found absolutely no Dreads.

There are a couple that have braided hair

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Vixis

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Valkris

and hair that's long that show a style usually that comes from undoing braids

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Kahless_(clone

    but no dreads...

When is that hair tech showing up again? "Soon"?

Edit: Off-Topic Question: How do i make it so my links are one or two words instead of the whole link address? It had never bothered me before, but i'm on the forums more these days# Please PM me to not derail the thread#

In response to your edit question.. I have no idea...
In response to your above posting... yes this is what we are talking about. Perhaps they didnt have the tech to do the hair the way it was needed to be done or perhaps they went over the polygon budget?...lol ;)

To edit a link you get normally this (without the *) [*URL="This is your URL"]This is whatever text you want.[/URL*]

Like this I have a huge stupid link and now I changed the link to this sentence to finally tell you this is a picture of the money cat.

As for hairstyles, bloody hell give them now I hate the current limited selection.

There's a button in the interface when you post. It's a little paperclip with a globe on it. So highlight the text you want to be the message about your link. Then click that button in your editor here. (It's like to the far side of where you can bold text and what not). That will then call up a little box that lets you put the URL into it. Viola. No coding needed.

On topic: I'd love for the hair tech to happen. My Nausicaan has dreads and they clip into his awesome Nausi armor and look bad.

Yeah, I dislike the dreads on my Klingon, too, but I doubt Cryptic will do anything about it soon, they have enough to do to design new ships and consoles for C-Store.

It isn't even that they're dreads.

It's that it looks like they're wearing mops on their heads.

No seriously, get an old mop, put it on your head and look in a mirror- now you've got that genuine STO klingon loop.

I lieterally lol'd at this :D But yeah, like everyone else I agree that Klingons should definetly have more than just dreads. But I would highlly prefer that they finish the hundred other things we're "supposed" to get.

I believe that they went for dreads because it still looks more "Klingon-ish" than if they'd given us long but smooth, normal hair. It would have just looked sh... and whilst not perfect the dreads were the easiest solution. Understandable, and bearable, for the time being. As like FerengiQuark pointed out, there are other, more pressing matters that could be addressed first.

I could think of the modelers actually revamping the entire selection once this new "hair tech" (which pioneered with the fur on our veteran pauldrons) gets rolled out entirely. At that point, it will actually become possible to have long hair that doesn't look like a shiny brick and thus totally unfitting for Klingons.

It's just a technical limitation, and they have already been working on removing the obstacles.

No we Klingons do not have Dreads. Though it might look interesting I've yet to see that in any of my costuming in real life among my fellow warriors. We do braid our hair (wigs) and unless theres a bald klingon we mostly do not show ears either. I agree there needs to be more options.

    I have to support this.
Let's face it, Klingons are the King of 80's heavy metal big hair!!
Nothing but perms and curls. I think the overall best winner of Klingon big hair was Captain Kohlar of the D7 from the VOY: Prophecy (7x14) episode.
Man, if our society allowed, I would be pimping that everyday!!!

    What we have is....
    not that!

In all fairness, hair tech has been on the list of things to do quite a bit longer than most of those other hundred things.

Yes, it most certainly has... just look at the clipping issues hair has with our uniforms and bodies...yup, won't find that on the fed side...why????....it's a priority over there to take care of them only...not us....PW has said they want more emphasis on the KDF side...only time again will tell if they are blowing smoke and the devs are seriously Fed fans only.

I really really hate to admit it, but I have asked myself the same thing when I read it.
Is this smoke and mirrors again or do they really want separate factions?

... crossing fingers and hoping for the best!

I'd have to disagree, both Worf and Kahless in game have decent looking hairstyles, especially Kahless, I love his hair in game.

    Kahless back shot
    Kahless, attempted profile shot

They could use that texture for all sorts of new hairstyles until the new tech gets implemented, which probably wont be for a LONG time.

Not quite what the OP is suggesting, but I would love "full head" versions of the existing dreads for chars without special foreheads.

They could just take and create a new hairstyle using current tech, shorten the Klaa hair a little for clipping issues, and people would be mostly happy....

There's some truth to that, but I suppose that is mainly because both characters were inserted at a later time at which player hairstyles were already done. If they'd touch them again with what kind of hair graphics are available now, I'm sure they would look even better.

The tricky thing is getting the modelers to start re-working Klingon hair styles in the first place. I'd assume it is the same artists that are busy creating new ships and clothes for the C-Store and general game content; KDF just isn't a priority there. Which is somewhat understandable, but nonetheless saddening after all that time. I mean, there's always going to be something more important if you think about it.

    True

I'd say that they could just take those hairstyles I posted and add them to the character creator, but I've heard that npc accessories work totally different than player accessories. I assume it might be because when npcs are designed they're one whole entity, where player characters is multiple parts attached and able to scale with each other (you make your chars head bigger, the selected hair scales with it).

What I wish they would have done, however, is when those characters were made (which is a little over a year ago) that someone looked at that hair and said "That looks pretty awesome and much better than dreads, since we're designing it right now and working on KDF stuff, it would be somewhat convenient to add it in as an option right now."

I'm sure there's a good reason why that didn't happen but eh, a man can dream.
