I have don that about 30 times i also downloaded and re-installed game completely about 3 times, this is very smiler to server problem i remember this from beta i think needs server restart but not really shore, why is that tech support not answering my ticket, how ever i am able to get on Tribble but not on Holodeck
DAY 10 unable to play game, I got response from "Tech Support" on day 4 and as usual i had to repeat myself every other day thy have escalated my ticket to tier 2 support how ever tier 2 support has not responded on ticket as of yet sens Sunday so 3 days
question: are you using xfire?
if so: try to quit xfire and start the game again
its known for the past 2 / 3 months that this program couses crashes at and/or right after character selection
STO is also working after several more attempts after trying all day since yesterday. Hopefully it was just one of those things. Is there any other programmes known to interfere with STO?

teamviewer can prevent the game from working.
