On 8.18.2011 from 7:00AM to 9:00AM PDT (1400 to 1600 UTC we will be performing scheduled maintenance on the Cryptic Account system. During this time, you will not be able to create or manage Cryptic accounts. Players will not be able to log into the game; however, players already in the game should not be affected. We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause.

This does mean we sadly will not have a patch for Star Trek Online on this downtime.

I'll agree with that. I suppose this means the patch that was going live will be pushed back a day then?

Well, that better be some pretty freakin important account maintenence. Otherwise the Foundry folks who have been patiently waiting all week are going to want to get out the torches and pitchforks.

Shouldn't have said a patch was coming that actually fixed things only to take it away for account server maintenence. Bad, bad idea.

Hope the maintenence goes well, thou.

Ive got a felling this account maintenance is all that PW stuff. Or at least most of it.

Or the account server maintenence IS the stuff dealing with moving from Atari to PWI. Who knows? My point is you don't tease players with fixes and then pull the switch-a-roo and do account maintenence. If you are going to do account maintenence, do it outside of the usual player-expects-a-patch-to-the-broken-stuff cycle.

i know this doesnt have to do with this exactly but overall maintenance.
just an idea for the foundry since there seems to be so many issues with it:
have you considered completely wiping it from holodeck and copying it over from tribble? would that possibly help at all?

    No, it wouldn't. :D

It isn't that there is a "bad copy" problem with the build on holodeck, it has issues related to the code changes from the Season 4 update. They have a fix for it, it just needs to be applied.

Sadly, they have decided to do account maintenence instead.

well thought it might be an idea worth mentioning

and wouldnt it be easier to look at everything thats mentioned as a problem work out the fix and when you do shut it all down to work on it fix every current issue and see where it leads? you may already be doing this it just doesnt seem like it from the posts in the forums
(i e: a problem with combadges seems to be ignored from what ive read.)
    who knows anymore

I dont know much about the ins and outs of fixing all the bugs in a massive program like STO except that its so complex that even a seasoned programer couldn't come up with any viable solutions without seeing the code for themselves.

Most of us even if we did see everything involved in squashing one bug would do better telling a cardiac surgeon how to do a triple bypass than we would brainstorming ways to fix the bugs in this game.

    fair enough

I'll be silent with my probably already thought of ideas now.

Well if this means the eventual patch will be more robust and stable, and possibly foundry-flavoured, yay.

Thankyou for this :) STO should have a live twitter feed somewhere on the site so that those of us without Twitter, can see those sorts of updates without having to rely only on possibly stumbling across them from other players.

I wish I could say I was surprised, but sadly delays are the norm around here.

If it actually worked that way it would be great. Unfortunately no matter how long they delay things they still cant seem to get them working right when they go live. Either way its a lose/lose for the players.

To be fair though - they did say the following RE: The Tribble Patch (link to Post)
Speculate no further! Our current plan is to turn the foundry back on tomorrow on Holodeck.

    Barring any complications :)
    ^^^
    Highlighted.

My point? They found some complications. And as much as I'd like to see the Foundry back online and working (they also got Diplomatic First Contact missions working again too); I'd rather they NOT push a patch that has more issues.

I believe it's between 7 and 9 am PST, so we're only about 1/2 into it.

Is there a DXP weekend this weekend and if so what are the time frames? Why is it not on the main websites calendar?

Funny.... now they have something that might be actually USEFULL to patch (the foundry fix for example that seems to work on tribble) they dont patch.... after 3 weeks wihere they FORCED patches that were useless..... its kind of getting funny...

But well, if at last the next patch REALLY WORKS I'd be fine.

i think the problem is, that none of us knows whats going on behind the scenes. who really says- do this, do that - we have to hold this or that back for later... we have to get this or that out right now... and so on.

i can totally understand those who give critics to cryptic, but we always need to hear both sides of the story in order to get an appropiate opinion.

There are existances behind STO. These times a difficult for the people at cryptic. All i hear from the comunity is "wanna have - wanna have - wanna have" this takes time people. stop complainig.

im pretty sure that the cryptic team will surprise us with new content by the beginning of next year. thats what i believe in.
