Problem Playing, Seeking help

First, thanks for looking.

Before season 4, I was able to play without a single flaw or issue. Once season 4 hit, I have been unable to do anything once I log into any character. The gameclient.exe instantly crashes, windows has no clue why, and no reports I've sent have resulted in anything useful for fixing it. I've updated all my drivers, and really have no clue why it's being a problem. I have zero issues with any other games, and this one played fine until they updated.

Does anyone know anything I can try to make the game playable again?

sadly nothing we the players can do really you can try changing your launcher options to use a diffrent proxy. but the devs have done nothing really to fix these issues. Over a month now and still not one attempt to fix the bugs.

Cryptic seems to just not care in my book any more, atleast thats what it looks like. They even pushed out todays patch knowing it would break the foundry.

This just really seems....messed up. I got a lifetime membership just to support them. I often buy points for additions because I like the game and want it to continue. But all of a sudden a new season hits, I can't play for no bloody reason and there is no way to fix it?

can you post a DXDiag report from your PC so we can see your hardware and driver setup?

I could, yeah. But its kind of a long read. Just copy and paste it here? Or are only certain parts of it relevant

I see you're system is actaully sharing systen memory with the video card. (And I'm not saying that's an issue); but if your video card is actually adressing that much memory; there's a "video memory limit" option in the "Trooubleshooting" part of the video options.

If you can get to the character select screen, don't try to launch your character. Hit the "Back" button and you'll get to the DSTO ligin screen. Hit the Options button, and on the screen that pops up, go to the Video Optiions; scoll to the bottom and click on 'Troubleshooting' to open up that area - scroll down to the last setting "Video Memory Limit" - and it it is at the default (Auto); try setting it to "1024+" and see what happens.

Also, NVidia has newer WHQL drivers availab;e for the GT240:
    Version: 280.26 WHQL
    Release Date: 2011.08.09
    Operating System: Windows XP
    Language: English (U.S.)
    File Size: 79.3 MB

So, you might want to try updating them as well.

Hvae you tried disabling anti-virus, firewall, ect. Do you run any other software, like xfire?? There could be a conflict.

EDIT: Also the shared memory is standard dxdiag report for windows 7.

Thats for Windows XP, not 7? Unless I'm missing something. I'm pretty sure I'm up to date for my video drivers.

I've tried getting to my options like you suggested. So far no luck. Client doesn't stay stable long enough.

However, either disabling Avast (which I've never, ever had a problem with before) or shutting down xfire appears to have made the game work just fine. How frustratingly odd. But thanks to everyone who helped!

Doh - didn't think to ask about X-Fire (and surprised the Cryptic Support folk didn't mention it to you as the X-Fire incompatability has been the case since Season 4 was on Tribble. My bad.)

Glad you got it working again though.
