From what I can tell my graphics settings seem to be more or less maxed. Yet graphics quality is very low for some reason. Ship and station panels are basically light blue blurs with splotches of slightly darker blue here and there. Not the crisp read outs that the webpage screen shots suggest I should be seeing. Is there a setting that I'm overlooking?
It is configured with 4 GB of RAM (1333 MHz PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM), a 1 TB (7200 RPM) hard drive, and ATI Radeon HD 5750 graphics with 1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory.
you dont have half resolution on or something do you? its just above or below the graphics slider.
might be an idea to press graphics settings to default and then crank it back up. maybe you git something by accident that has thrown it off.
also keep in mind the graphics usually wont be quite as good as the dev pics because they probably momentarily crank up the resolution for the shot but it should still look almost as good. your machine looks powerful enough.
I know the problem you are having. Its due to lack of Video Memory. (At least the game thinks you have) If you go over this (With high settings) alot of textures go blurry and stuff..
Now you might have a Videocard with alot of memory, there is an option in the Graphics Section under 'Troubleshooting' Where you can set a manual Video Memory Limit. Try raising this option to 1024MB or something.
Perhaps its on 'Auto' now and it puts the limit lower then you actually have?
My situation was as followed: I just have 256MB dedicated videoram in my laptop, where the 'Auto' Option also put the limit to 256MB probably, now with high settings and especially as soon as I enabled the Shadows to Medium or High, I was lacking videomemory so the Textures go really blurry and stuff. So i also raised this option to 512MB and problems are gone
I believe STO now partially uses my 'Shared Video Memory' (probably Normal System Memory) to swap with the real memory a little. But most of my problems are gone without noticable FPS drops. Sometimes you do see textures pop blurry and enhance themselves when facing the right direction, but there isnt anything I can do about it. But it fixes this 'blurry' thing.

ive got the HD 5770 which is just fractionally above his and mine looks fine. so if it is its not affecting everybody.

Didn't work for me.
Zarxide, could you post the video/graphics details you used?
Tomorrow my laptop with radeon at work
You nailed it! The memory Was set to auto. Not only do I now get to enjoy all my little readout but performance in general improved. Thank you
