Yup... <.< I'm also surprised he didn't at all touch on all the bugs with S4 launch.. like pathing issues, breaking foundry, auto-attack breaking, some FA's not working as intended...etc.
okay, as much as I love lotro, I had to laugh at your request...
While Lotro certainly has more content than STO (even at launch, lotro had more content than STO) Long term bugs and broken skills have plagued that game also, as have long content gaps... I believe one lasted for around 6-8 months when Turbine were bought out by Time Warner and the game switched to the f2p model.
So yeah, seriously, enjoy LOTRO, it's a very good game But just be aware that eventually you could end up in the same situation as with STO now... tbh it'll happen with any "theme park" style MMO. no Dev team can produce content as fast as the players can consume it.

My point wasn't LOTRO is better, my point is people are starting to trickle elsewhere. I'm aware of everything you mentioned and do understand player consumption.
But, the level at which Cryptic is allowing at this point is ridiculous plain and simple. I don't care if MMO A and MMO B has similar issues. STO needs to get its act together
What a... fluffy article. It must be nice to leave the game for a year and come back to see things as new, but for those of us sticking around month after month, nothing is new. Which is a shame, because we're the ones consistently paying the bills. Would be nice if some of this "content" would go toward giving end-gamers something to do.
I don't know. It seems like the article was short, but to the point. It addressed the problems the author had with STO in February 2010 and highlighted a lot of the stuff that has been added since.
As for not mentioning bugs, they rarely do. Bugs are things that get worked out over time, so mentioning them in an article that might be read for months to come is not a good idea.
Cryptic, you've done a great job bringing STO to the point where it is now. The game has improved vastly and you should be proud of that but...
Klingon players need more official content ... and Cryptic definitely needs to add the Romulans as a faction.
This is the one area that still needs improvement. You know it and I know it. And we both know that Faction Agnostic Content + Foundry won't fill this need as you had planned.
The Klingon faction deserves more official, full featured missions. And the Romulan faction will require the same. If you don't have the resources to do this for the Klingon faction then it doesn't bode well for The Romulans. I for one, hope you've realized this and I hope you're starting to make plans to remedy this dilemma.
Any article that is 1 sided, either positive or negative, is useless. That article does a good job of highlighting STO's improvements, but pretty much ignores the substantial problems it still has. For someone who is considering trying the game or returning this article is only going to fool them into thinking everything is great when it in fact is not. Some things are, but others are very NOT great.

Very true, I don't trust any "news" article when it only highlights one side of the story. **peers around for Fox News Employees**
Removed TTH from my bookmarks, to avoid being misled.

course folks are trickleing elsewhere it's the nature of MMOs, heck I'm playing THIS game while waiting for LOTRO to introduce content
I think the article was fine, its not a review just a editorial comment. The writer pointed out what he liked and pointed out the lack of content. What other substantial problems does he need to list?? I really think people have overstated the issues with season 4.

This game has not received any official new mission content in the last FIVE MONTHS. In that time period, the Foundry has been the only source of new missions coming into the game, even though they arent official missions. S4 broke the Foundry, and there are still a ton of missions that are broken. So not only have the Devs not added any new missions to the game in an obscene amount of time, they also broke the only system that was adding new missions to the game.

Unfortunately, it seems every time, thus far, that Cryptic releases a new season, the STO game experience is severly altered for the worse for a couple months until all the bugs are fixed. I have gotten so use to this, that when I was playing more regularly I would often play a couple times after the new season to ensure my assumption was right, and then wait to play the new content months later, so not to be constantly frustrated by the poor STO gaming experience, of having new conent at the expense of old content not working.
I was glad to see Cryptic would make a link to an article like this, for as much as I agree with the article Cryptic must as well, or they would not post a link to it. I share the joy of how much STO has improved since launch of last year, but strongly agree with the concluding statements of the article that STO's main focus to come should be the release of new factions, and building content for these factions.
Hopefully, the "third glance" at STO in a year's time will have more content, especially new content in the Klingon and Romulan factions. Unfortunately, like the author who waited over a year before coming back to play STO due to lack of content, those of us who want to play in a new faction might have to wait for the "third glance" in over a year's time.
i love how these Reviewers always ignore the difficulty options.
one of my MAJOR gripes about the game when it launched was that it was mind numbing easy.
there was no challenge at all.
for them to completely ignore that a GAME is only fun if you are challenged by it says a lot about these reviewers gameplay style...
if you are not punished, then there is no joy in beating the enemy. (when was the last time you said "yeah i did it!" after destroying ...a Borg Cube? ...a Breen Ship ...?...?...? )
half the time STO feels like "cleaning up the place" ...instead of "epic ship combat"
add to that, that ground combat for some odd reason usually is a lot harder then space... well at least i die a lot more on ground because my health is depleted a lot faster.
I find it amusing that it's an editorial and not a real review, yet on the STO main page it is attributed to TTH and not the author. The quality of the writing emphasizes the fact that it was not penned by a journalist (nor proofread) but, that's immaterial I suppose. Any publicity is good publicity
I'm well aware telling Trekkies to calm down and think objectively is an exercise in futility, due to the level of passion found in most of us but... I think a lot of people are lambasting this review far more than it seems to deserve.
The primary purpose of this review was to take a look and see what had been improved, and as such is primarily a companion piece to the original review. The point of the review was to compare the launch version of the title to its current form. And I don't think there are many of us that could argue that Season 4 doesn't blow the initial release handily out of the water.
The sheer amount of progress its made in the last year and a half. Yeah, Star Trek Online still needs some work. Quite a bit, but it definitely is improving. And hopefully it'll continue to improve.
Yeah. If this much was done in a year-and-a-half after release (with a production time of 18 months), imagine how it could look like in 18 more months.
A Fair review. I have returned after a 7 month break. Being a head starter I can see Major changes.
Its no longer like ST, It is ST.
The only thing I was disappointed to find was no new PvP maps. They have improved the PvP reward system but I need more maps and maybe some form of PvP stat tracker.
I have found a fair few bugs but that's like every MMO after a big update and none have been game breaking.
I liked Star Trek Online at launch, i enjoyed the content, i took my time playing through but the comparison between then and now is like night and day. It was hard to convince my friends to play the game before, i felt compelled to tell them all the bad points and they always seemed to outweight the good points. Even though i loved the game i could never convey why to anyone else.
Thankfully this has now changed, my friends who dont believe everyone should play like me (ie a Kirk era captain that shoots first and asks questions later) can now do diplomacy missions, to a lot of next gen fans this is what Trek is all about. The story lines in the episodes have been astounding, each one better than the last and i had tears of joy when i heard the TOS battle music when fighting that giant worm.
STO is no longer a game stuggling to become what it was meant to me, its now a game refining itself, getting better but never being bad. Im impressed with what the team working on this game have been able to acomplish in such a short time, and im thankfull to all of those Captains who kept logging in even when they felt there was nothing left to do. I love what STO has become, and i hope to be able to talk about it for many years to come.

This review missed the mark by a long shot.

^ I agree with both of these
LOL, that is all

I am forced to agree with my esteemed colleage...
