I Keep Crashing

I have been away from this game for several months now and just came back to see what the new stuff was like.

To my dismay I keep crashing every 15 minutes. I have updated all my drivers, I also play CHAMPIONS ONLINE, and RIFT. I never crash on these games so I have determined it is STO that is the sole reason for the crashes.

I have an INTEL QUAD CORE, an NVIDIA GFORCE 450, run WINDOWS 7 with 8 gigs of ram. So my system doesn't suck.

I only crash on STO and within 15 minutes time, I do have my settings maxed but that has never been an issue before now.

When I crash it totally shuts my monitor down saying NO SIGNAL and my PC is frozen from that point and needs a hard start to reboot. I have logged onto CHAMPIONS and RIFT today and played for hours on each game the problem is only a STO issue.

Does anyone out there know of any reason other than my drivers that I have updated would cause this repeat crash issue with STO only?

Try disabling "On Demand Patching" in the STO Launcher options. Also, (unless you do use it) try disabling Vivox voice chat in the options as well.

I am having the same issue as well. I have been having this issue for about a week now. I have never had it before. And I only crash when I am attempting to create a new character. I can log in and play with established toons, but every time I have attempted to make a new character, in the middle of it, I crash. My monitor goes black, and I have to do a hard shut down. I also play wow, and I have no problems, nor do I have any problems surfing the net, or running any other programs on my computer. Perhaps it is because I am attempting to make a Klingon toon,....hmmm.

I am not very tech savvy, but I have been playing this game with no issues since 1 week after launch.

I have a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50 GHz, running Windows 7 64 bit OS. I have 8 GB of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce GTS 240 running DirectX ver 11.0

I have DSL Internet through AT&T, I live in the Indianapolis, IN area and that tracert thingy showed me 12 lines with the largest number being 54 ms with an average of 51 ms.

Before submitting this I tried the above steps, I first force verified, then I did the disable thing and took a couple of hours patching everything. I didn't see anything about the voice chat, so i tried to make my new toon for the 5th time, and crashed yet again.

    Please help.

If your are running WINDOWS 7 or VISTA right click on the launch icon and click on TROUBLESHOOTING COMPATABILTY. This will make windows adjust the setting for the game so you won't crash anymore.

I did this and I have not crashed at all since. :)

It sounds like you might be experiencing a overheat situation on your system (eithwer the CPUs, Videocard, or both.) You may want to check to see that the inside of your computer case has adequate cooling; that it's free of any dust or major ayrflow obstructions and that all your case fans, CPU fan(s) and GPU fan(s) are working (and on high if you don't have the ability to set any speed control through software.)

If you don't already have something, you might want to install some tempurate monitoring software that will show you the temps your CPUs and GPU is runniong at in various areas of the game. "Nvidia System Monitor" is free and available from the Nvidia site - and there's plenty of other freely available somftware of that kind on the internet.

STO really does push any hardware to its limits, so adequate cooling is a must.
