Firewall Settings for STOL?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I am attempting to get my Firewall set up so that I can play STOL with the Firewall active. It would seem that I need to set up Rules in the Firewall SW to allow that to happen. My poor understanding of the Ports, and IP Number Structure is going to blow my ship out of space unless I can get some Set Up Help to make this work.

Base: Network Rules for Firewall

Should the Connection Protocol be: In Bound or Out Bound? Or *Both? (*Two Sets of Rules?)

Protocol and Port

Protocol Type Necessary: TCP UDP All? Other IP All? HTTP? ISAKMP? IGMP? GRE? Network Time?

IP Address:

All Addresses? LAN? Loopback? Public Network?

IPv4? IPv6?

Perhaps IP Address Range? From and To?

I would greatly appreciate any help that can be offered to get past this problem. I am very uncomfortable have to play with my Firewall inactive.
OOPS!

Thank you so very much. My FW Provider set it up wrong then. Will go back into the Well and try to drain it...

    Wish me luck.

There is only 1 TCP Option in my FW Settings, it is TCP UDP ALL. I tried to set up another rule that said TCP Only, but it would still not let me set a range of Numbers for that.

There are no settings that relate to PC, Router, or Modem.

IPv4 is already checked, but there are no changeable settings after the Check Box.

I set the above for Two Way, One Rule for In-Bound, and One Rule for Out-Bound.

Game Still Times out with Loading Screen Transition.

I did try US Proxy, and Last night, I got a message that the Proxy had been Shut Down....

you need to set the port forwarding ON each device on the network, login to your router and modem to set it up.if you still stuck i can always do a secure vpn to your pc with your permission and help you set it up.

Thanks, I saved your above info to file, and will call my FW Provider to make these changes you proposed.
Their support team should be able to pull that off. If they can't, I guess it would be time to change FW SW.

Thanks much for your help. Will PM you if I can't get this done from them.

In a reply from Cryptic, They list 3 Files that need to have Exceptions in the Firewall and AV Software programs, they are:

    1. Star Trek Online.exe
    2. CrypticError.exe
    3.GameClient.exe

As of Yesterday, I was only aware of the First, and the Last.
They have also asked me for a DXDiag Report.

Those players having problems and seeking help might want to have this information.....

I just read a post in another thread that gave me an Idea, so I tried it out...

The other Poster was having issues with Router and Modem, and the suggestion was made that he run some items of check system as Admin.

After some thought, I right clicked the Game DT Icon, and found, under Compatability, Run as Administrator. After checking the box, and clicking Apply, I shut down my Windows FW, and re-activated my Primary FW.

I was able to start the game, Load my Toon, and fly a mission without being Timed Out as I have been for Two or more weeks. Great Feeling of Freedom!!!

I am also wondering if this will solve the problem for other players as well. :D
