Could we please get this put into options instead of it cluttering the screen? I cant even move it out of site somewhere. How many of us actually use the astrometrics layout since we got the real-space look?
Bear in mind the option isn't just there for veteran players who are settled into their space-travel style of choice. New players' might like to know the option is there without it being hidden. I still swap between views from time to time.
As a veteran player, I wouldn't object to the option to bind that to a key of my choice. And drop the button off my UI altogether. But I don't want that at the expense of the new player experience.
I use Astrometrics when collecting samples. The "grid" makes it alot easier to avoid getting too close to the borders, so I'd much prefer if it didn go away from the hud. It could be more discreete however.
Right now its still a nice option for the new players but I have a feeling it will go away once they make the map one big area, at that point in time I don't think it'd be necessary to have.
Even just a hotkey setting for it would be great. It being always there, on screen, does get annoying but it is quite tolerable since it only exists in sector space.
Parhaps 2 settings to include to make it's move or removal user friendly:
Option in HUD settings to disable Astrometrics Button. (Alternatively: Place the Astrometrics option in the mini-map context menu instead.)
Keybind Setting for Space Keybinds to toggle Astrometrics on and off.
I find using the grid lines to travel to the closest way point (next map) helps make it a LOT faster. I don't care how it looks but it does save me time. I rather not sit wait for an extra 40 seconds for it to do it's thing while my ship goes around everything including other ships. I dislike that in earth spacedock/solesystem.
may i propose a third compromise, perhaps you could instead of the worded large and imposing button, instead shrink it down to its own icon, which could be something so simple as a picture of a grid.
this way its smaller, and its still on the screen, but it doesn't clutter the screen, and new players could simply mouse over to it, and find out what it does, and whether they wish to use it.
Hit M or have a small button on the side labeled Astrometrics.
USE THIS BUTTON FOR THE MAP
(put toggle Astrometrics ins sector space in the options like listed above)
a window pops up.
On the left is a list of EVERY system with a search box below that.
On the right is the map window showing your location.
You click or search on the system you want to go to.
The map scrolls over to the desired system like it does at stoacademy.com
below the map are buttons:
Set Course (your ship will pivot to face the desired course)
Engage (sets you on your way)
A radial button labeled (Auto zone sector borders)
A radial button labeled (track vessel)
A button labeled (Locate Friends)
A button labeled (Locate Team)
changing course manually will disengage.
An addition to the above have mission destinations clickable to bring up the Astrometrics window already centered on the destination.
This is Star Trek. It is set in the FUTURE! We shouldn't have to poor over maps trying to find where we are supposed to go hehe.

I hope they dont take another 6+ months to get rid of it.
Indeed, I wish it were there instead too.

I would prefer they change its location to the scan button on the minimap. You dont scan in sector space anyway.
Wait, is there a way to get rid of the shield rings? I am not a noob, just haven't done much searching around.
For like a year... Basic options Enable directional shield FX on\off
I'm going to have to take look, thanks.
