I want to play this game...

But the lag is just killing me. Its not fun anymore getting booted all the time and taking 15 minutes to try to log back in only to get timed out again. This has been happening for weeks and I've tried to be patient but I'm just fed up! Check my past posts, I don't complain about this game much! I like and enjoy playing it. But I'm just frustrated on not being able to play

/end rant

I don't have any lag, you sure there's not a problem on your end? (perhaps your ISP?)

No it's not his end or mine, it's server-side...

if some people report no problem and some do then its most likely a problem that is neither server or client side but the many, many wires inbetween.
Hopefully cryptic can figure out which isp/backbone goofed up and tell them to fix it.

Though in reality with so many companys involved it could take a while

If you have tech-related problems the best thing you can do is post in the tech forum - and also supply the data the Devs have been asking from people who keep posting about lag. This thread will just end up getting closed or moved and you did nothing to help provide information that might lead to getting the problem fixed. Do what the Devs have asked people to do multiple times in these threads rather then just complain. Maybe you have a bit of info which might just be piece they need to fix the problem.

You might be right. But based only on what he shared with us so far it is not something we can confirm 100% :\

Without detailed information we cannot ever assist. Please, if you are experiencing lag issues and similar, please always provide detailed information:
    • *Always* run a tracert. Find out which hops you are taking and where the lag starts.
    • *Always* use the nettest tool to check if you are able to connect properly.
    • *Always* add from where you are playing (I don't need your address, but we do need to know where in the world you are and what your internet service provider is)
Tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com to check your routing.
You can run tracerts from a windows prompt or through online tools; select that which works best for you.
    Nettest:
    • Go to files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
    • Download this file and run it
    • A command prompt should appear running the test automatically
    • Do alt prtscn(be sure the nettest is the active window) to Copy and paste the results in paint and save as jpeg and attach it in a post in this forum else
    • write down the columns
Good results have column 1 and 3 with values around 300- 500kb/sec, column 2 with 20kb/sec

...and, yes, this is a message I copy and paste a lot. It mainly is because this is often the crucial information that is not provided and that I need to deliver before I can talk to anyone about these issues.

I've been having the same problems. I can't even get past the loading screen because it says "Server not responding" and even when I get past there, I can't even move around from all the lag.

Now i'd say it is internet connection problems that are client-side, but how come this is happening only AFTER the recent 2 patches...

*note that last 2 hops (13 and 14) took much longer to show ping and IP values. (idk if this is my sistem/windows tho)

Nettest is attached in picture, because i couldn't copy it, and that it because it wont execute to the end. It sometimes lagged like hell on second line, sometimes on fourth, this is as far as it's gotten. The cursor blinked as if it was working, but it just hang there. On second run it got to 4th line, on third run to 2nd line again... Idk witch rerun this was, i'd guesstimate 6th.
    Nettest

    DxDiag is in the txt.

My location is Slovenia, ISP is T-2.net, connection is fiber-optic, 10/10 Mb/s.

I only got lag after the academy went on holodeck. I was on tribble earlier and i didn't experience any lag there.
Also, lag started to appear only after i teamed up with a guy who was complaining of lag before we made a team.
We reran Reman featured series for accolades.
In the last episode (Cutting the cord) i got "server not responding" 2 times, and it took a loot of time for my character to appear on ground map. After that, there was like a very accelerated game going on on my side, like my client catching up to server for the past 2 or 3 minutes .

EDIT: added Tinypic url to picture. Idk if it's just me, but the picture i upload via forum is total TRIBBLE and unreadable.

So I've been trying to reply to this thread for the past 2 hours, but these forums are as flaky for me as the game itself. Lets see if this will finally post.

    Here is my tracert
    tracert.jpg

Here is my first attempt at the nettest.exe
    nettest1.jpg

Here is my second attempt at the nettest.exe
    /nettest2.jpg

Here is my third attempt at the nettest.exe
    nettest3.jpg

    Here is my dxdiag

I apologize for my curt behavior on my original post, but I am frustrated with this game. I want to play but I cannot. I guess I will go back to streaming netflix movies since my internet connection is fine. I hope I get to play this game again soon.

    Good morning.

Just woke up and reran nettest.exe
I went fine 1st time, values were >540KB/s for first and last column and 14-16KB/s in middle column.
Second dtime it got to last port no. 80 (last line of columns) and on 3rd run it executed completely again.
Both times NIC idle bandwith was 0/0.

Forums arent laggy either so i'm guesstimating you fixed the problem?

I am not saying you guys are not having issues but why do you insist its server side? I have been playing non stop since I created my account last weekend and have not had any lag what so ever. I have been in zones with dozens of user ships with no issues ( earth space dock ), am I in the wrong area to get this lag? My guild from WoW also signed up ( 14 of us ) and we are on Vent chatting all the time and Non of them have mentioned lag.

Because of the area you are playing in could you be on a different server than me? Just trying to understand.

If my connection is bad, then I shouldn't be able to stream HD video and watch movies, should I? If I can go to other sites, use ventrilo to talk to people, use skype to video conference, and watch movies online, but not play STO because I keep getting disconnected, what do you think is wrong?

Video streams have a buffer, latency doesnt matter too much to them. It does to games however.

I believe it is VIVOX the new voice chat feature, disable it and see if it helps the lag issue!

    Hey guys!

I am not sure if it helps but i have been toying with options on the STO Launcher and after having selected:

    Use Proxy: EU
    Only Patch Through Proxy

I could finally log in the game and play 2 full hours without being disconnected or rubberbanding.

Funny thing is that i am Canadian and live in Montreal, east coast. But so far, it let me play the game without any of the problem i was experiencing last night.

Like i said, i am not sure if it is random luck or really helping. I really cant wait for a real Dev to respond to the issue we have.
