Having the same problem. Recently purchased the game from GameStop and after downloading and patching, the only thing that launches on startup is the Champions online, can't even select Star Trek from the pull-down shard menu. Any ideas on how to fix it? Getting ready to just return the software. Thanks for the help.

Did you log into the website and enter the STO retail key on your account and set up a subscription plan? (Both of these actions are required before you'll get access to STO in the launcher?

Is this still the case? Because I've been away from the game for a long time; actually, had uninstalled the client, deleted the credit card info off the website, but just came back after hearing "free to play".
Or, trying to come back. I cannot log into the Star Trek game shard, as the client updates normally, still showing the STO info, but the shard selector only shows the Champions game shard.
Well okay, ... but still??? Now, I remember, once upon a time, creating a Champions Online character, and toyed around with it, but made no real effort in it, so I just let it go. This was all back when I originally uninstalled the game client.
Even if it's not yet free to play, at least the client should still work as expected, and launch into the STO interface. To be explicitly clear, I have downloaded the Star Trek Online installer via the bittorrent link on the http://www.startrekonline.com/download webpage. All downloaded quite well. I installed the program, and ran the client. It showed a lengthy patching process, which I let it do, but after complete patch, I checked the options in the Shard selection combobox. It doesn't show anything other than the aforementioned Champions Online shard (live).
In any case, I clicked 'Engage'. I mean, *surely* it's been patching the *Star Trek Online* game, right? RIGHT??
Not trying to be rude, but ... I knew this already. And yes, I am showing all games. Further, going into the install directory, I see three subdirectories: one for Champions Online, one for Star Trek Online, and another for "localdata". Drilling further down, both of the game directories have a Live subdirectory. But while "Star Trek Online\Live" has a "piggs" subdir with eleven ".hogg" files and nothing else, "Champions Online\Live" has two executables, fifteen dll files, and seven subdirectories.
The game will not show up unless you resub
Until you have a active account it will not alow you to log in and patch
Up to the latest client
If you don't want to resub wait until Sto is free to play it will show up like champions in the launcher then

Nope.
Hopefully, this is a bit more diagnostic.
