Everytime I try to talk to others using the voice chat no one can hear me. They can't even see me open the mic. I know others have been having problems too but I was wondering how prevalent this problem was.
I can only offer you some possible steps to attempt (if you haven't already done so).
Vivox requires a push-to-talk key by default which may or may not be set, based on your key bindings. If you had no key bound to 'b' and 'b' was not set to (null), then that's your key (should be).
You must also be certain that you have chosen the appropriate input device inside the options -> audio chat Section. Also, it's worth noting, that you want to make certain that your output device is properly set there (why not, eh?)
Voice chat integration only functions in team & in fleet chats. And only in 1 at a time (for you talking, anyhow, afaik).
I also had the same problem. I bypassed by switch and WRT54GL router and connected directly to the cable modem and Vivox worked.
A quick Google search yielded quick fixes so I proceeded to install Tomato firmware on the router and have been fine since.
I have a Netgear wireless g wgr614v10
I checked that custom firmware but it doesn't say if it will work with my router. Do you know of a way to do this with the official firmware or if this custom firmware is supported by my router?
Thanks.

If you're having trouble with Vivox, I'd try bypassing the router and connect directly to the modem to see if this solves the problem. If it does, you can bet that the router is blocking Vivox traffic somehow.
DD-WRT and Tomato are the only two firmwares that I know of. It looks like DD-WRT is supported for your router so you may want to give that a try.

I'm having the same issue with Vivox, on my Win-7; I don't get any option of the mic below the text box. However on my Win-XP it's there, so I don't know what is different. I've done force verifies and looked for missing files but everything seems to be there from XP. I even copied over the content from the "Live" folder from XP into Win-7 and still nothing. I much more regurlarly use Win-7 and prefer it to XP. So I also know it's not a router issue as it's a dual boot system and they both go through the same router. But perhaps it is in the way that the 2 OS's handle the communication. I just don't know, I'm betting it has to do with a bad setting within Vivox itself that needs to be fixed and/or patched, hopefully sooner rather then latter. Also had a friend tell me that it works for them in STO and wont' work for them in Champions.
If you have the same issue, try the following few steps:
1. Navigate to \Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live
2. locate GameClient.exe and set it to start in Win98/ME Compatibility Mode! (rightclick -> properties -> compatibility) Make sure you've pressed apply or OK
3. Start the game as usual.
At this point, Voice-Chat should already be working! But you might experience a massive performance hit - dont worry. If you still can't execute "test mic" ingame correctly, then this probably wont work for you.
If it is working, then continue with these steps:
4. Exit the game
5. disable compatibility mode for GameClient.exe but set it to be run as an administrator.
6. Start the game again - Voice-Chat should still be functional. Now you can start to adjust the volume etc..
7. Enjoy

Here's the link for DD-WRT: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index
Here's the link to the supported routers for Tomato: (it doesn't look like yours is listed) http://www.polarcloud.com/tomatofaq#what_will_this_run_on
Nope not working. Same problem even when plugged into the modem. Clearly the problem has to be Vivox.
What about disabling your anti-virus software and firewall while plugged in to the modem?
This should leave no question that the problem is not on your end.
Tried it. Didn't work. And I'm not the only one. A fleet mate of mine was transmitting either.
