I have been meaning to bring this up for a while; I am one of those mouse point players, in that, I use the mouse pointer on the screen functions during combat. I am use to that since it allows me to focus on the screen and not my keyboard. The problem is that when you point at a screen function, the description text box pops up on the screen. This won't be a problem except that the box is solid and covers up the action on the screen. I find myself having to guess the direction of my ship because the box if covering the front end of my ship. I usually watch the weapon function to see when they go active and then fire. The main problem is when using cannons that have a narrow arc, and you have to maneuver quick to keep the target in the arc. I think the solution is quite easy; just make the text boxes transparent and add a option to prevent text box pop-up during combat. If any of these capabilities are currently in game then I just plain missed it.
The closest option i can think of that could help you out is in the "basic" options tab and its called "Non-Instant tooltip delay", it should be by default set to 1 which is 1 second, you can change this to a maximum of 5 seconds delay. This wont get rid of the pop-ups but it will delay them for 5 seconds.
Theres also an option in the "HUD" menu tab in the options menu called "Hide Tray Tooltips", its never worked for me but you never know it might work for you....
