Laglocked.

Don't know what else to call it.

I log in, get in my ship... start to play...

BAM. Suddenly I can't move, chat, or even logout. I can see other people chatting, I can see other people moving, but *I* am locked up completely. I Alt-Tab out of the game, close the whole window and start over... only I can't find the launch server for about 10-15 mins after this happens.

Sure, I have really really crappy DSL, but it worked until this patch. Every other game I have still works. Browsing works. I can download at 300 KB/s. So what's the problem?

I have a very similar issue, I call it being stuck in limbo. Can't move (I can chat however), can watch what's going on, but nothing else. I submitted a ticket.

Windows XP 64 bit. Someone suggested maybe it's the 64 bits.

    Nope, I'm using Win7...

    Fully patched... all drivers updated.

IT'S STILL HAPPENING. I thought it was fixed in the last patch, but I still can't play.

It's pretty random for me. Yesterday I could warp in and out of Defera 6 times, today I need to restart the client every other loading screen.

    ...

Yeah, this would cause my comp to not be able to find the login server for 15-20 mins after getting laglocked. This would also cause my not being able to chat... or logout... or anything. The other few hundred people having this problem must have done the same thing. Stupid us.

I'm looking for help, not trolls. Thank you for trying to... whatever you were trying to do.

I'm having this same issue, although it eventually clears. Basically whenever I enter a new zone, whether it's the sector map, star cluster, ground map, bridge, DS9 and etc, for about 30 seconds I can take no action. The first clue is that numerous buttons from the UI will be missing, Once those begin to fill in when I am in sector space I can start to move.

Ground maps are much worse. It will appear as though all elements have loaded but when I attempt to move I get rubber banded right back to where I beamed in at. Repeatedly.

    I am running Win 7 64 bit.

I took two actions that seem to have helped alleviate some of the lag. First I granted the STO folder full admin access rights just as a precaution. Secondly I performed a full patch by going into the launcher options and disabling patching on demand.

Still getting some lag when entering new zones, but delay is significantly shorter now. Maybe about 5-7 seconds or so.

Since season 4, i am stuck in limbo too. UI loads slowly etc. In general i can watch but not act, for minutes.

From my other post in this thread here.

"Funny thing is, if i force a ~20s connection loss/block with STO ingame via my firewall, an re-allow the connection again after that, the game runs relativly well after restablishing a new connection to the server. But its annoying doing that every map-change and its not working 100%. But that way.. i can play at least somewhat.

edit: Also i get better results using the US-Proxy.

edit2: I also got no issues with the Account or Patchserver."

    "Trying to update the launcher
    Please be patient
    Tried connecting 9 times"

I get a lot of this... still.
I think herein lies the key to the problem, somehow.

I'm getting it on ground missions. Only I can move but can't beam up, and my crew are stuck just looking around.
And now Lag is running through the sectors in space. I can't play untill it stops.

    And I have broadband ASDL2+ and a powerful system. Couldn't play if I didn't.

I am getting a similar problem to this but for some reason it is not always happening. It's on certain maps. Yesterday before the restart it was Alpha Centauri, Now, it is sirus sector block zone #1. Number 2 works fine. It is also Shmar and Kelvani belt. I am at a loss. My connection is stable I get no packet loss. Great Ping. Cable company says my levels are good. I have restarted computer, modem, router, removed router, release and renewed my IP I got nothin left to do.

After reading the forums and complaints and thinking this whole situation through...

.. i come to the conclusion that some of the Charater Files, in example my Mainchar got corrupted / defragmented / damaged / whatever with Season 4, and that after a map change or initialization the server is not able to register the Character Files properly / fast / as intended to the map.

    That creates the 'Limbo'-effect.

While the server tries to register the messed up char file properly to the map, the client is in waiting mode. Depending on the serverload / traffic and some other unknown variables, maybe where to connect from and to (proxy) / position in queue / grade of damage, this takes time for the server to solve this riddle, again and again, until the char file is fixed.

But thats just an not so educated guess.

i have never played sto with out some kind of lag but now i might get 5-10 min with out getting stuck. i ones could go weeks with out getting stuck but now its really bad.

to fix it you can change the map by beaming up, warping out or as soon as it happens stop everything your doing and stop your ship even if your under attack and it might fix it but it might not as its just a chance.

Please, if you are experiencing lag issues and similar, please always provide detailed information:

Without detailed information we cannot ever assist you. And detailed information is not "STO does not work but WoW works!". They are different server locations. You so not use the same pathways to get to server A that you use to get to server B.
    • *Always* run a tracert. Find out which hops you are taking and where the lag starts.
    • *Always* use the nettest tool to check if you are able to connect properly.
    • *Always* add from where you are playing (I don't need your address, but we do need to know where in the world you are and what your internet service provider is)
Tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com to check your routing.
You can run tracerts from a windows prompt or through online tools; select that which works best for you.
    Nettest:
    • Go to files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
    • Download this file and run it
    • A command prompt should appear running the test automatically
    • Do alt prtscn(be sure the nettest is the active window) to Copy and paste the results in paint and save as jpeg and attach it in a post in this forum else
    • write down the columns
Good results have column 1 and 3 with values around 300- 500kb/sec, column 2 with 20kb/sec

    Ok.

I have no idea what these things actually do or how to translate the results... or how to a copy of them into this window because they close almost immediately after completing and I'm not able to copy and paste from the DOS prompt for some reason.

The first test gives me 1k in all columns. I am DSL and my ISP tells me this is normal. All tests I ran for them ran normally and they insist everything is working as intended.

The second test times out 10/10 times and doesn't do anything.

I'm playing from Louisiana. I use HughesNet DSL.

Also, I'd appreciate a little less vitriol when dealing with someone who is just looking for a little help, please. I'm positive we're all a little stressed over various things, but simply tell me what you need from me and I'll provide it.

If everyone else who posted here could help out our mod here with the info requested, that would be great.

I'm getting the same issue and it's definitely not because of my connection. I, too, get stuck when zoning about 3 out of 10 times. No buttons work and usually my ship is invisible or at times visible but does not respond to commands. On land, my character models don't load and I cannot move around. I have no issues in any other online games that I play. Average ping in WoW is around 40.

It happens with both Federation and Klingon factions.
I play in West Virginia. My computer is running Windows Vista 64 bit.

While this is great, and I do thank Sully, each user will have different results. His results will not tell me what your problem may be, Catrim.

I am very sorry if you feel there was any virtol in my post. It is a direct copy from a number of threads here as sadly only very few posters actually give us this information. It is very, very difficult for us to track down issues without more information, so I need to ask for it.
I myself cannot explain it better than how I have posted it, I, too, have taken bits and pieces from our Helpful Users as they have posted over the years.

If all of this is not helping, then I can only point to the stickies and ask that you submit a tech ticket. There is no Customer Service support through the forums and I can only help so much. :(
