I know in recent patches they did the whole x4 texture update, more graphical updates for the same memory usage. That was fine, STO ran the same.
However after S4 launched on Holodeck, there is a noticiable frame rate drop. And trust me I know how to troubleshoot that (see sticky lol..).
Now I did test S4 pretty well on Tribble, and it worked fine. Same FPS as usual. On Holodeck though, there's a fairly large dip in performance. Sometimes a tiny bit of stuttering but mostly just lower frame rates. All settings are the same as they were pre-patch. No settings changed on my end, drivers up to date, etc
So can a dev enlighten us and let us know if there are issues with this or maybe something was changed in S4 to be more graphically intensive? I mean the game is still playable, but now in social zones it's pain to look at with the low frame rate. And yes all settings on super low.
I've noticed the frame rate drop as well. Thought is was because I updated my ATI mobility drivers. I'm on a HP Pavilion G7 AMD M880G Phenom II Dual core ATI HD 4250 with 2gb of video ram and 4 GB of system DDR3 ram.
Before Season 4 on average I was between 55-59.97 fps with res set to 1024x600, AA 4x, AF 16x, 3 lights, shadows low, high detail objects, post off.
The game looked fairly good, even compared to how it looks on my desktop rig that plays it at 1080 with everything maxed at over 60 fps.
However, now after installing updated ATI mobility drivers and S4 update, changing no other settings in the game, in the same area's where I was sure to get 59.97+ fps, I now only average between 30-45 fps. Also, in most places where the scenery is vast and abundant, I drop to 19.2 - 21.5 fps. In certain situations it is as low as 14 fps.
These lower framrates are prevalent even after switching resolutions from 1024x600 to 1280x720. Before S4 I could run in 1280x720 but it was not at 60 fps, was hovering around 45 and dipped to low 20's in action, so I switched to 1024x600.
I switch resolutions occasionally when experiencing frame rate issues because it forces rerendering of the game and sometimes kicks it back to normal framerate that I had before the issues. When I do that after the S4 patch I notice no change in framerate performance. This is highly unusual because when I go up to a higher resolution like 720, I should notice a significant difference in frame rate, and I don't. There is only a few frames per second difference between 1024x600 and 1280x720 after the S4 update.
I tested these settings in different space and ground scenes (pick a scene then note the framerate at 1024x600 then without moving, switch to 1280x720 and note the framerate activity, then switch back to 1024x600 and move to a new scene always testing both resolutions in the same scene same spot) by looking at a direction that gives the highest drop in frames then while still facing that direction and it rendering on screen, I switch resolutions between 720 and 1024x600 and watch the framerate activity. (I've been doing this all day)
I guess I'll have to play on my desktop now or put up with framrates staying around 30 fps
I posted about this too but got told by this helpful community it must be my rig  as the engine is currently in game there is a massive flaw somewhere that has decreased overall engine performance. Whats frustrating for me is I can turn every option on or off in graphics and except for 3 to 4 fps it makes no difference. I would love to get this resolved and to experience the performance increase that was suppose to come with season 4.
I just went back to my previous ati drivers that I had in before season 4 and when I was getting my steady 50-59.97 fps with medium settings, I'll post my results.
This could be related to what I posted in my own thread earlier today. waaay back before the seasons, there was a bug that was causing the GUI to take /massive/ GPU/CPU resources, to the point where it reduced performance a ton. It was gone for over a year now, but s4 seems to have brought it back.
To see an example, enable FPS, then press ALT+f12. In my case, it goes from 55fps to over 115fps now.
Which is crazy. The GUI Isn't rendering any shaders on it, nor are the source image files for the GUI That large. There's no reason why it should reduce performance by half.
