This is hands down the best integrated VOIP I have seen in any game based on my experiences with it on Tribble. I can't wait to see how it plays out with the whole of Holodeck using it.

I'm wondering if they will ever have it so the private channels you create for text chat in game can handle this as well.

Very cool. Had my first go at in-game fleet voice chat today, and everyone had it up and running well within a few minutes (Noticed that everyone had to bring up their microphone level considerably to be audible, might want to change the default?). I do notice some choppiness and stuttering from some players, but overall it's working quite well so far. Team chat is also working great.

I hope the voice system can be deactivated by default, because it would be very anoying if I have to deactivate the voice chat everytime I start the game.
I am able to play the game, but nothing more even playing is just possible. The additional voice traffic will kill the connection for sure.

I am not against voice systems, but I can't use them so it is important for me to disable them. I have tried teamspeaker in the background and the result was devastating for the game play.

Once you disable it, it should be disabled until you turn it back on.
That being said, the Vivox system is pretty good when it comes to bandwidth; you guys will be pleasantly surprised.

I have to say that I am .... add in the ability to use it for custom channels and I will dance a jig.

    Pleasently surprised?
I have disabled the voice system, nevertheless it seems, that there is noch chance to play the new game. With or without chat. Suddenly it seems to need so much bandwidth, that this game died for me.

I just have 768 / 128 kBit bandwidth and STO was fantastic as I could play this game with only minor problems due to the bandwidth problem. Now this time seems to be gone.
I really like STO. Voice systems never where interesting for me, especially with my connection, but that way it is now playing is impossible.

Is there still traffic from the voice system even when it is turned off? If yes, is there any way to totally shut it down?

me and the fleet i am in spent the better part of 30 minutes trying to get this ingame voice chat to work and were convinced that you got the cheapest crappiest product you could for this game.

we didnt get anywhere with it, just static and a barely auditable voice in the background. we ended up going to Raidcall just to talk through an aborted Cure run and boy did that get tedious with armek.

SWG has this voice chat and it works just fine most of the time.

Also, it's nice to have an in game option for voice chat because often there's guild members that can't use another voice program for various reasons, AND, when you group with people not in your guild, or friend's list, you can all still talk and organize your missions/raids without having to give out your Vent or TS channels to strangers.

I take it you adjusted your volume and then went to the participant window to adjust theirs?

My fleet did this without any problems.

Even on Tribble I couldn't get it to work, voice chat is enabled and my microphone is plugged in and works fine on every VOIP service I've ever used, on STO the vivox controls won't even show up where they should and even trying to Mic test only results in a blank box.

It seems to work very sporadically, some of my fleetmates sound fine, but about 1/2 of them sound like adults in a Charlie Brown TV special, & some of them i cant hear at all, even though i can hear others responding to them.I have only been in 2 arenas today so far ( Broken Queues again ), & no one on my team talked, or if they did, i never heard them.

I think the chat is too much for the server. and it kicks several of us players off every now and then. it makes it really difficult to do missions:eek:

This voice chat is very nice, but I'm having problems with my headset. I can hear the game sounds, but when people reply I hear them from my computer speakers. I use a Windows 7 Laptop and my headset is a Logitech Usb.

Have you tried setting your output to the headset under Options > Voice Chat?

Push-to-talk feature works ok but it would be great to have voice activation option in this voice chat...

Is it possible to change the default "N" button for "push-to-talk" ?
    If so , where ?

(I'd like to set it to one of the outlining buttons on my keyboard , so I could reach for it without looking)

Go to Options > Key Binds and scroll all the way to the bottom to find the push to talk key assignment.

has anyone else noticed that you wind up still being on a team channel, even when the match is over & the team has disbanded.?
It works the same way with fleet chat. I logged my fed out & logged in one of my Klinks, & i still could hear & talk on both fleet channels.

My experience with it so far is that it is low quality, there is plenty lag experienced and really you're still better off using an out of game option.

WHAT MAKES YOU THINK I WANT TO TALK TO ANYONE IN GAME?

It's bad enough to see all the stupid comments in the chat window, now I have to subject my ears to that abuse as well?

I don't even like most of you people....

I like the vivox voice chat and havent really had any issues with it fore the most part. Its cool to be able to talk to my fleet with the push of a button and not having to type. Easier to convey ideas that way, or if we do team missions together its easier to communicate.

This does have its share of bugs which I will list here. Some areas for improvement:

    1. When you open the participants window, it disappears after you go to a load screen

    2. The participants window also doesnt show the proper display names. For example if I am on one of my characters it will show my alt federation character name. This is the case with all of my fleetmembers

    3. I would like the ability to create multiple channels. For example a channel that my fleet and sister klingon fleet can use to talk to each other. Or another channel for fleet admins only

Just some thoughts but overall its pretty crystal clear/. I suggest to people to get a decent 30 or 50 dollar recording condenser mic with a usb cord and make sure your volume in the computer and sound drivers isnt too high. You can use it by trying out the test microphone option in the game if your voice sounds too loud and distorted turn down your imput level to about 3/4 of the way. Also in game your mic volume should be around 75-80.

I like it overall though just needs some improvement in small areas and to have the bugs worked out.

I'm also using a USB Headset and having issues getting it to work in the Vivox system. It seems to want to only pick up my built-in mic. I've tried switching to the other listed input/output options, but they do nothing. I can't use the built-in mic because the fan noice gets picked up. Any more suggestions? I'm using a Logitec G33 on Windows XP (via BootCamp).

Ive noticed headset mics are somewhat low quality. Make sure you check your sound settings in your windows control panel and that all aspects ofyour headset are enabled such as your output and imput. YOu can also test your mic on the game and test your mic and voice volume. I use a recording interface that I use to record music for the band im in and a condenser mic so I dont have any experience with headsets aside from the fact my razer headset mic sucks.
