What Are Little Ferengi Made Of?

Hello to everyone. I published a mission recently and figured I'd give it a thread of its own. It's based on a mission I worked on Tribble, with some substantial changes and additions. I'd be curious to hear any thoughts or suggestions that I can use to make this mission better or carry forward into other missions, which I'm hoping to work on shortly.

I've already had some helpful reviews in-game, but would also love to hear thoughts that don't fit into strict character limits.

Here's the vital info about this mission:

Title: What Are Little Ferengi Made Of?
ID: ST-HPQDIOAKY
Allegiance: Starfleet
Level: 16+
Location: Hana System, Regulus SB

The official blurb is this:

At the edge of explored space, a Ferengi trader has uncovered the advanced technologies of a dead civilization. Starfleet needs you to check his claims and ensure his discoveries don't fall into the wrong hands. But, from the moment you arrive, nothing is as it seems. In solving the mysteries that will confront you, be prepared to sacrifice yourself for the safety of your ship and crew, and the survival of the Federation.

I'd like to make a trailer or include screenshots, but the graphical capabilities of my current machine are so abysmal, it wouldn't create much incentive to play. You'd all be asking, is that a Ferengi or a baked potato? (Actually, I've seem some potatoes that look remarkably Ferengi-like...)

Once again, I'm also open to any suggestions or ideas for improvement. I'm particularly concerned the the puzzles might be too hard (or too easy). I'm also not sure the ground combat in the borg cube is totally balanced yet.

Anyway, enjoy!

This mission was awesome. It actually made me laugh out loud when it explained what was going on in Engineering.

That's the best news I've had all week! Thanks!

It's amazing what messing with the sonic shower modulation can lead to...

i enjoyed this mission. very cool storyline.

please put the name of the system in the mission overview section where it says go to regulus sector. the name was only mentioned in the first bit of dialogue. after i had read it i forget where to go and had to drop the mission and repick it up just to check the name.

i was not convinced about the bit in engineering where you have to find the consoles. i spent quite a while running round in circles trying to find the correct console in the correct order. personally i would change that.

puzzle 1 and 2 were fairly easy and just what i look for. puzzles should not be too complex. puzzle 3 seemed convoluted in its explanation. i just guessed and got lucky with it.

    overall it was pretty good.

Done! Thanks--I know how these little things can make a big difference.

They're parallel interact with objects, so there shouldn't be a correct order. I'll make that clearer in the dialogue. The complexity here is that you don't see the interactable consoles until you get close to them. I can make that clearer in the dialogue too. I hate running around on what seem like frustrating tasks, so I don't want to make other people do that.

I'm particularly curious about feedback on the puzzles. I wanted to balance some challenge with ease, and that's a hard balance to get right. The last thing I want to do is frustrate people. This is one reason why I always gave the option to bypass the puzzles completely.

Still, I'll give that last one a little thought. It is hard, and it was a challenge to phrase in a way that made sense, so I can definitely see your point.

There are hints that I've stuck in different locations on the map. That's also something I can make clearer.

Incidentally, It's variaton on a classic logic puzzle. I actually got it off a poster on a train, although that version used scarves.

Just played this one... and I gave it a well-deserved five stars. Fun, Trekish story, a delightful dose of humor, and even some challenging fights.

Oh, and I absolutely loved the logic puzzles. And I totally got the right answer for all of em. :D

    Hey all,

Just made some modifications to this mission and everything seem to be working alright.

I've gotten a lot of great feedback so far and always looking for more, either in this thread or in-game.

I'd originally imagined this as a stand-alone mission, but the "Return of the Ferengoids" might be too tempting to pass up. So if you like this one, keep on the lookout for a follow-up.

    Best!
