Is there an advanced command line option, or other method (possibly edit a config file edit) that I can use to force the Star Trek: Online game client to enable Multi-Core Rendering? I ask this because I have an older system (Pentium 4, 3.06 GHz with Hyper-Threading) & the game will not let me enable this option under the Video, Troubleshooting section in the Options Menu. Yes I am aware that a Hyper-Threading isnt the same as a multi-core processor. Hyper-Threading does allow the OS to distribute the process load just as the OS does when using a true multi core processor. Starting with Windows XP the OS treats a Hyper-Threading processor as a multi core processor (In the Device Manger, Processor category it lists multiple CPU cores corresponding to each of the threads on the Hyper-threading enabled processor under the, in the Windows Task Manager the Processes it is possible to set affinity to specific cores, and under the Windows Task Manager the is a separate CPU Usage History graph for each of the threads on the Hyper-threading enabled processor).
Let me say before anyone tell me that the specs for this PC falls below the minimum system requirements that I am already aware that I am already aware that this CPU falls below the minimum specs for Star Trek: Online. This isnt my main PC (this is my older PC that I am setting as a backup that I can use to play Star Trek: Online is my main PC isnt working). That being said I already have Star Trek: Online running well enough on this PC to make the game playable. I want to test to see if by enabling the multi-core rendering on this processor that the Hyper-Threading might possibly be able to push the envelope further for this old system & tweak the performance further.
This is only a test to see if Star Trek: Online can be made to use using Hyper-Threading such as the Multi-Core Rendering does for true multi core processors. I know that this is a long shot & won't be surprised, or disappointed if it isn't doesn't produce the desired results.
Any feedback on if it is possible to force the Star Trek: Online game client to enable Multi-Core Rendering is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
