I downloaded the demo for STO and have been turned off by the outrageous loading times. Is it normal to have to wait 10 minutes for the game to load the Solar System and Sirius Sector? I know my computer isn't state of the art, but my 4 gigs of ram and an Nvidia 9500 video card can run Starcraft II just fine so why does STO take so long to load?
if its the first time loading into a map then yes it will take longer to due the client grabing asset info for the first time, after the first time loading times do decrease and with season 4 micro patching will be avaliable so you can patch during the loading screens for only assets for that map on the fly.
1: micropatching is active by default, it's so new i don't know if it even is active for the main server yet.
you also can deactivate it in the options of the launcher, but then you have to download everything at once (might be a lot, especially for the Demo) -> your choice, longer wait ingame, or download it all in the patcher at once, that produces more traffic for you.
2: you get disconnected and are starring at a red "Server is not responding (**time**)" message without realising it.
Then you have connection problems and i could not help you with that. (sometimes the loading screen with that error message just keeps running and running without throwing you back to the login screen).
all i can tell u is i load between .5-2 min loading times, it shouldnt be over that, sometimes programs running in the background slow u down , try disabling ur gadgets and any usless programs that may be running, like for example, EA Download manager when its not doing anything, disable it and ull probably speed it, Loading times rnt a real problem in this game anymore, 10 min load times was like The Open Beta of STO

2 things i can think of...

usually it should take only a few seconds
