I have a fully patched install of STO that is acting weird!
The install is on an external drive that is accessed by either a PC or a laptop. I'm logging onto one STO account. When open STO on the PC with my main Windows account it wants to patch the whole game again (10gb) however if I log on as an alternate windows user to open the same STO install it works without patching., even though they are both accessing the external drive.
On the laptop (different user again) it works fine.
its a permissions issue, likely that the account that doesn't work doesn't have read or write access to the STO folder (if the files are owned by a different user.)
So make sure your users are all a part of the same workgroup or "domain" and that they have the proper access to the drive and folders.
the launcher uses registery settings for the location of the game. if the launcher can find a patched version at the location in the registery setting (set by the installation program) it defaults to the launcher location as a unpatch version.

Just wondering here, does the install have to be done on Both Systems so that the Registry in Both is Up-Dated with valid Location Info???
So we are saying that even though it's using the same location n my PC where one user works and one doesn't i need to essentially patch it twice (one for each user?).

Here's a trick you can try for future reference (Note: if you don't feel Computer Literate - don't attempt this).
1) Install it for one user
2) Log in under the Administrator acciuynt (or another user profile that hs full Admin access)
3) Go to 'User Profiles' (Under Computer properties; Advanced)
4) Select te profile that you installed the game under.
5) Select "Copy To"
6) Under "Permitted to user - type "Everyone" (without quotes)
7) Select 'Copy' - and Browse to location: "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User"
8) Delete any previous user profiles except Administrator and the profile you installed the game under.
What you've done is make one profile the Default profile for any new user profile created. Since that profile also contains the game install info - any new user profile created should now have the info as well.
So is there any way to check the reg setting on my main pc where my admin account does not work with the external drive install but another account does?

If you have not yet done so, I would suggest you try what PegasusMD Posted above, if you have not done so already. Getting into Checking Registry Entry Info is a Very Technical attempt that should only be undertaken by those with the knowledge to do so. (Sorry, that is not me)

If that does not resolve your issue, then you are beyond my reach.
