I have no idea if there's anyway to change my settings, but anywhere where there's alot of clouds or gassy stuff (Like the Defera system, or Breen cyro gernade effects), my FPS dropps into the toilet. I first thought it was like in the beta, where I had FPS lag in areas with lots of asteriods, but I run fine even in those areas. It's mostly where there's cloudy things in space or even on the ground.
And here's my PC specs, incase that's needed:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5600+
3gb ram
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 video card
You're not alone... I get the same thing and I have a ATI Raedeon HD5770.
Worst place got to be the final battle of "Klingon Scout Force", with all the fighters inside the nebula.
The end of the Klingon Scout Force @ Laurentian System is notoriously laggy. The cloudy venue in which the final battles take place is just horrendous.

Lucky its only a small part of the game.
True, just sucks hoping that each place I go into, won't have a bunch of cloudy stuff, so it won't lag like hell.
yeah there's a definite lag issue here. My fleet did the Klingon Scout Force the other day and my basic tactic had to be fly into cloud, get less than 1 frame per second for about 15 seconds, while firing everything. turn around, repeat. My computer i'm sure was glowing by that point. Something really should be done to reduce the particles or something so it's not as bad. even my friends with high end rigs lag in Defra and Klingon Scout Force.
