Patch Keeps Freezing

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I've tried over a dozen times and can not get the patch to work.

I'm running XP SP2 an an intel core duo 3GHZ, 4gb of ram. ATI Radeon 4650.

I disabled AVG which I thought might've been the issue but sadly it is not.

It just periodically stops during the Patch, at various times. I don't know what seems to be the issue. Any advice on what to do at this point?

I've also added the program as an exception into AVG, to no avail.

This keeps happening to me as well, my internet connection is rock solid at the moment, so I know it's not that.

That makes me also, sometimes it starts and freezes, sometimes not at all, my router is showing no activity. It's not my connection as I'm browsing and patched up another game just fine.

Just thought I'd mention, it always seems to be frozen at 30.3%.

i just came back after quiting game shortly after release to see if the issues with game mechanics had been resolved and have same issue. ive had to bail from steam to my pc version (don't ask i own 6 versions for all the collector bonuses). so far it seems good but i am worried the 2 gig patch will fail again. to bad we can not download each individual patch as .exe like wow do if a patch fails to often for users.

on a unrelated not ei am a lifetime officer but can not see where to change my title/profile text to blue any advice?

Patched fine now. I did a full reboot of my PC (and slept on it for a while).

The only other explanation I can think of was the notorious ISP usage filtering that Virginmedia sometimes inflict, I've had other games 'chocked' by my ISP for a while if they deem my usage excessive.

I spoke to them about that the other day and they claimed that they weren't doing it, time for another phonecall I think.

Edit: Apparently it's nothing to do with Virgin Media, I've also double checked my firewall, tried both with and without proxy, rebooted several times, deleted the "live" file that is suggested on the support page, and still no dice. Deffiniely a Cryptic problem. So far my experience with the ticket system doesn't fill me with confidence with regards to getting a resolution though, every issue I've had in the past recieved a cookie cutter reply and no further response. Are there other ways to contact technical support from Cryptic?

Ok, I cracked it. I uninstalled STO, then ran a registry cleaner to make sure it was very uninstalled. Then I reinstalled, and it patched up fine. It took a while since there was more to match, but everything appears A-ok. I'm not sure what caused it to not want to patch before, but I imagine maybe some files didn't match up quite right or something, and a clean install sorted it out.

It may also work for you guys.
