I'm looking for some peer advice for an odd issue that I'm having with my keymapping. Last night when I was playing STO, I suddenly had difficulty where the key I would press would not correspond with the action to which it was mapped in the game.
For example, when I was on a ground map, I would press "Q" to look left (custom keymapped to fit my preference across all the MMOs I play) and my character would try to do a palm strike. I checked my keymapping structure in the pop up menu under options, and nothing had changed. Same issues when I transferred to a space map. I can type in a chat textbox just fine.
Odder still, this same issue is happening for me across ALL THE MMOs I play (Champions and DDO, in addition to STO).
I use a standard Dell USB keyboard that came with my computer, and tried unplugging it and then plugging it back in, as well as rebooting my machine, to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas what might be behind this prior to me going out and buying a new keyboard?
did you recently install a security package that included an anti-keylogger feature like GuardID(came it comcast security package) . I had this problem occur to me becuase the GuardID was preventing the games from remapping the keyboard for the game. I had to unistall the GuardID for my game to recognize my key commands (the keys would type normally in chat box but in game the response to key strokes was all over the command list.
Oh my gosh yes I did just install the comcast version of Norton last night! I didn't mention it because i didn't think installing an anti virus software program would have anything to do with keymapping.
How did you go about shutting off this 'guard id' for STO?
There no way to turn the feature of you have to uninstall the GuardID component use the windows add/remove programs in the control panel look for the program GuardID and just uninstall it. you will not have the anti-keylogging feature but atleast you will be able to play your games.
