Title says it all:). I just got an 14 inch high res Alienware laptop, and have been playing a lot lately, problem is I loose track of the cursor all the time. I know surely some of you play on the popular M11x, on which the cursor will be close to invisible, but it's really not the size of the screen as I had the same problems on my workstation with an 22 inch monitor.

Cryptic could you consider making this change or make it an option to customize the cursor to your own liking? Or do I really need a pair of glasses:)?

It would be really nice to have a few mouse cursor options for the game, for sure. I know I lose sight of it all the time, particularly in space.

Even a "pulse effect" or some sort of finding feature would be OK too. It's rare when I lose the cursor but when I do it's usually really bad for my ship or crew. ;)

Signed. It always gets lost right when you only have a second to drop warp plasma!

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation had a different UI for each faction. Perhaps if the Devs decide to give us a cursor that is easier to spot, they could give us a Federation one for our fed characters and a Klingon one for our klinks.

I wish they would revert to the gold one they had in open beta.

I would like a new cursor, but I also don't want to see you get in trouble. Change the word "petition" to the word "request" to bring your OP within foundry rules.

Very much this. Almost always I lose it when I'm trying to mouse over to RSP or something.

I would love to see some cursor options also. A larger one would be nice (toggle on/off of course) and maybe a 'high contrast' version (of both sizes) as well.

    Here is a solution:

Now you just have to change your normal desktop cursor and live with the fact that it won't change when you drag, or mouse over something. I could bang up a little tool that would allow you to change the cursor on the fly without altering your default desktop cursor, but I think I will just spend that 10 minutes with my family instead.

I totally agree. I run the game at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and that cursor is near imposable to track in a normal space fight. If people start using all their effects like viral matrix and teckans rift (I know its misspelled) or Im in any ground fight with a light surface the cursor is near imposable to track.

Its good that we have workarounds and I appreciate that you took the time to refer us to them but honestly as a long term solution we shouldn't have to do this. This issue is one of the most irritating problems STO has and we face it multiple times every time we play the game. For it to still be a problem since launch I think its priority on the list of things that need to be fixed needs to go up.

When we do PvP the challenge should be outsmarting and out playing the opponent not who can keep up with their mouse cursor better.

Yes please, a new cursor would be greatly appreciated. I always lose it right when i need warp plasma, then i flail the mouse about in a fury trying to find it. Happens more times than i care to admit, and im playing on a 40 inch. Faction specific would be nice too, starfleet command had that also i think.

/signed part: ...and better colour schemes pet faction UI (can anybody actually see what they are targeting on the KDF side??) would be awesome.

/discuss part: but it might require work, and acknowledging that the current thing is sub-optimal, both things are hard to come by these days, so maybe we should all tune our eyes...*not*

Yes, I agree, it would take 5 whole minutes. Anyway, if you look around on German forums, you may find better solutions.

I just found this post and it is quite on the point:

Yes please! I switch between a 15" MacBook Pro and a PC with 24" widescreen monitor, and I loose the cursor on both all the time. I usually wiggle the mouse to find the pointer, but that doesn't help in STO space. I'm constantly having to pull the pointer to the lower right corner so I can find it, and getting pummeled in the process.

I stabbed my cursor with a toothpick and taped a yellow flag on it. It solved the problem for me. I thought I was the only one with this problem.

Thanks for all your replies people. Glad I'm not alone in this. @ Wishstone and Commadore Bob, I've changed petition to request in the title of my OP, but not sure how to change the title of the thread itself.

yes! the current cursor is not only small and hard to see, but I also suspect it turns completely invisible from time to time. A better cursor could improve gameplay greatly!

Having a customizable cursor would be awesome. I wish it was quite customizeable including size and color adjustments, but also the ability to select from at least a handful of different pointer shapes.

Ya the cursor drives me nuts, though I found a work around that screws my graphics over, dropping the resolution to minimum increases its size 50 %. I still lose track of it, honestly I think the game loses track of it and disconnects my mouse. (I get a hardware disconnect blip when it happens and it only happens with this game). That problem may be solved by running it as a software cursor or hardware(whichever isn't the standard).

Just kinda weird, it's the only thing that ****es me off more than, this game not having group activities until your in borg land, there is literally no reason to do anything but solo in this game, except in 4 whole missions.

Thought this was a MMO, not a rpg with online chat, atleast infected, terradome, the cure, and whatever other one is
    , Require teamwork and can't be solo'd.

The cursor ****es me offf more than all that!! Hell I shrunk my screen to make the cursor as big as posssible... Then 1 click resized the entire hud to fit it.. I changed the size of everything... To make the unchangable cursor bigger... Cmon guys I know you can fix it.

And I greatly appreciate seeing wish post on here, shows you are paying attention, and I greatly appreciate that and applaud you for it.

Or just have it honor the Windows cursor find cues (if you turn it on, left cntrl key causes it to pulse).

new C-Store item: Mouse Pointer twice the size for blind people,
with a six-pack of diffrent color options = 1500 Atari Tokens

hell ...i would buy that! :D

it's been over a YEAR now, it's time for a Dev to take the 5 minutes and replace the Cursor_Default.wtex with something visible!

(and seriously, "Petition" is just a word, people use words to communicate, stop freaking out about language!

There was a client side mod (a simple retexturing if I understand it correctly) available from sto-advanced.com that allowed you to restore the cursor to the gold one during beta and also make it double sized.

But when Atari brought in their new forum/community rules, he took down all his mods :(

Cryptic really need to make this option officially available in game, STO appeals to way more people than your run of the mill game or MMO, and some of those people are likely to have sight problems.

I'm partially sighted, and although I can and do use the UI scaling option, alas it doesn't include the cursor.
