Over at SYFY I ran across a small story. It looks like someone is thinking of making a new animated Star Trek show. Now before you say why, I say give it a chance if it's true. I mean really we have nothing new is the TV world with a Trek name on it, and maybe this would jump start the brand again. Maybe CBS is looking at the numbers witht he new movie, and want to see what the numbers will be with this project, if it goes forward. If they play out on the plus side, will a new live action series be far behind? I know it's only drop in the bucket, but these things can take off, even if it starts as a couple words between people.

I hope it's the Prime timeline, and they get VO from many of the actors who have been in the TREK shows of the past. I think it really could work.
Being animated also means they could totally push the boundaries of the alien planets and lifeforms that we see. if it was written well, then it could work and id watch it. if on the over hand its badly animated, aimed at kids then id rather they just not do it.
I think it does need to be set in the prime universe though. Setting in the jj verse limits their options and just gets in the way of the films.
If you pick the 100 past the current STO time, you can run with an open slate, no need to tie a lot together, but still linked to the history.
i can see maybe 50 years after STO is set, as that makes it about the middle to end of the 25th century.
100 years past sto makes it the 26th century and i just feel that skips ahead a little too much.
I'm fine if it involves another Enterprise (but they should come up with their own ship or use a lesser-known one), that's pretty central for name-recognition but I really hope they don't try and make the main character(s) the descendant(s) of canon character(s) (Kirk's great nephew/grandson, Picard's son/daughter, a futuristic Soong-class android based on Data's design (or Data himself), etc) or imply a connection through the same name or similar names.
