I was just wondering how the roleplaying scene was in this game? If anyone could let me know so I could make an informed decision about whether or not I should fully try the game. (I've played the demo and enjoyed it well enough.) Thanks for the time guys.
The amount of times I've passed through Quark's on Deep Space 9 to find people using local chat to role-play...well, let me just say I lost count, lol. However, you will have to put up with griefers at time.
I only get irritated with the RPers when they get obnoxious and start picking on non-rpers for doing stuff like dancing on the tables in Quark's Bar. How the fork is that breaking your immersion? OK...I can see the leprechaun chase that I participated in a few months ago, as possibly breaking immersion....but still.
Overall...the RPers are out there. Sometimes they hide. I think they have their own channel or something. I rarely leave the Ten Forward Forum channel so I don't know for sure.
As well as Quarks on DS9 there is also Drozana and to a lesser degree, Club 47 has the occasional RP moment, however Quarks is the most common place to find the RP'ers and Im doing a David Attenborough with my minds voice on RP'ers.
As previously said, there are a lot of RPers at Quark's Bar. I try to show up there when the mood strikes. There are also several channels that roleplayers participate in. One that has some regular activity is the STORP channel. People generally chat in there, set up RPs, announce RP events, etc.
It's not common, but it does happen.
There are also some RP fleets out there, as I understand it.
All in all, there is an RP subculture in STO. Generally the RPers out there hide or keep to themselves, but Quark's is as good a place as any to get involved in some casual RP.
I would say quarks though every time i wander in their people are RP'ing being drunk and what not...it's like walking into a really bad attempt at a teen soap opera sometimes.
Lets just say that this game is way to catered to those of the RPers and that it is unfortunate that Cryptic doesn't put up a separate server for RPrs as it is annoying.

You know the costs of additional servers?
It's not cheap. Each server has to have it's own feed, equipment, and a bunch of other things. Cryptic isn't setup for multi server games at this point. The population could never support it.

This. If you want to RP in this game, you're going to feel out of the loop unless you join a fleet that specializes in it.
Try poking around in here and look for headings with RP in them. There's one on page one listed with RP in the title. The fleet leader looks to be a cutey too....
See you guys later!
-starts chasing the cutey-
(I think she poked her head in here once and I chased her off in 2 posts. Sad. )

Yes, thank you for pointing out something i am already aware of.
