Blue screen nightmare

Hey, over the last 2 years I have had a few BSOD, generally one offs. But this last few days I am getting a lot more.

They seem to occur more when the pc is idle, or when browsing the net. Yet i can play for hours on STO and other games without a peep.

They are also of the PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA kind. I did some playing around (Swapped out the ram, chkdsk etc.), memtest found no errors, and I even ran Prime 95 for 24 hours - no crashes.

So, do you wonderful guys n gals have any ideas on how I can track this down?

Please bare in mind, I am not totally illiterate when it comes to technology, but I limit myself to terms such as thingymajigga and whatchmacallit :D

Thanks,

Rick

Well i did some further jiggery pokery and found that every single BSOD was caused by ntoskrnl.exe.

Followed some sites instructions, and let Windows 7 do the hard work....hopefully :)

Its been 6 hours now and no BSOD hehe

Had the same error on BSOD myself on my new PC, turned out to be bad RAM. RAM was fully detected and in use at start up but a pair of sticks would go offline once the PC warmed up and if that RAM was in use by the OS or any application at the time then the PC would BSOD. Manufacturer replaced the RAM, problem went away.

BSOD is usually caused by faulty ram, hdd, gfx or mobo. In rare cases, CPU.

That is if you eliminate any drivers / software incompatibilities first.
