Computer Shutdown from STO?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Hello All,

This just started, but only in STO. Every once in a while my computer screen goes black and then just shuts down completely.

It's very aggravating and has only happened in STO.

I've updated the drivers as well.

My video card is: ATI 2600 HD I believe.

I'm running the evil Windows Vista as my OS.

Any thought?

Thanks!

I wonder if it is a temperature problem. Have you been watching that?

As stated, a temperature issue would be my guess as well. Almost all BIOS's will force your system to shutdown if the CPU gets above a certain temp. Check it out before you do some damage.

    Thanks guys and gals,

I'll check out the CPU temp. It could be as I just cleaned out my wife's laptop as her CPU fan had become clogged and was shutting down. Luckily, I'm on a desktop and that is a lot easier to get to. Her laptop was in a million pieces to get to that darn fan! :-p (Yes, I put it back together and it works like a charm now. :D)

I have never known a system to shut down over a video card temp. Usually, you just get major artifacting and in some cases, a system lockup or reboot.

Usually when you get a temp prob with a video card it will cut the game off and say device driver not responding.
