AFCTF Forums?

Many STO fleets have their own forums and communities outside of the STO Forums. With AFCTF having put on a couple of contests already, regular fleet events, and due to our members being a little more... unusual than the norm. Would AFCTF members and such like to have an external forum?

I love the idea of a 10Forward website. Mind you not a Fleet website, A Ten Forward one. A nice sanctuary where we can be 10ites without fear of anything beyond our own deranged minds.

I've run my guild site for years...Used to host an SWG Tempest site...plus I host my wife's family restaurant page.

I have a specific computer setup for it. Have a dedicated static IP.

I am not great at page design tho... hehe

I can either tag on a subdomain of www.argonia-station.com or if someone wants, they can register a domain...I normally would...but being unemployed...I actually don't have the spare cash for stuff like that...and don't want to ask the wife for the money to register a domain...don't want ot have to explain that one...lmao

One of the 10ites with experience in such things has set one up. A link may eventually be posted here depending on the reception. For now, it's on the down-low.

My reason for asking was more for an idea of demand. As Hort stated, there has already been one created by one of the tenites. I have a few ideas of how I'd like to see that shaped though but that's also what this thread can determine. Cappy's idea of it being for all tenites I like. For fleet business though, I thought that would definitely simplify the voting for future contests and such instead of resorting to Yahoo. In terms of the 5 fleet admins, they could oversee the fleet section with a few extra options to deal with contests, etc. I am all for something ad-free and something that everyone sort of has imput in on and such.

*IF* I were to do it, I'd have something similar to what Marie setup, and since I know phpBB very well...I'd use that. I am not a dictator when it comes to moderation...as long as things don't get too out of hand, I let things run their course.

What I would end up doing, forum config-wise would be sections for fleets who are part of the Ten Forward alliance...meaning fleets would have their own sections, as well as a combined area for all Tenites...

I have been slowly trying my hand at php. Web stuff really isn't my thing but I seem to get dragged into it. I am an admin on a friend of mine's forum but a lack of FTP access prevents me from learning more. Before that, I was a mod for a former Canadian Saturday morning TV host on YTV, Paula Lemyre. Because of these two very different settings, I can pretty much govern anything objectively. The only two things I don't tolerate when it comes to a board with no real rules are pretty straight forward. Attacking and or making someone feel unwelcome is one and stalking and or harassment is the other.

With the current one Marie has up and the other possabilities available. This could be quite an undertaking. If we look at housing boards for fleets a part of the Ten Forward Alliance, then perhaps it should be something like the following.

    Board
-Main Socail Area (ie MU Ten Forward)

    Fleet Areas
    -AFCTF
    -Other TFA Fleet
    -Other TFA Fleet

Other specialty areas like Hort's Risan Love Shack, Marie's Senior Citizen Bingo For Retired Officers and such can be discussed and decided upon. Each fleet area could be overseen by a sub-mod or two from their own fleet that only has mod abilities in their fleet area. The AFCTF admins could oversee the AFCTF area and even appoint one or two others to oversee the entire board besides the admin.

Anyway. That's just some thinking out loud for now. Everyone needs a voice and some imput on this that visits Ten Forward and likes it here. Between the lot of us, I'm sure we can come up with something epic!

Yep. That's my train of thought too. We just need to get the rest of the Tenites over there or at least onto something....

Why was I not informed? The ten forward rules clearly state that nothing cool can happen without my inclusion!

This is my fault! I wanted to make sure everything was absolutely perfect for your arrival. Unfortunately, a lot is still work in progress.

Yes, yes, that's all good, but it needs a section dedicated to Orion ladies.

Then, I'll be all for it!

    EDIT:
I have a freewebs from way back that I never really use. I know there's a forum option, but I've never played with it and I'm not sure how versatile it is, but going the free route, that might be a way to go.

My main objection to all this is not the intent or the idea behind it but simply do we really do that much stuff that we need a forums for it?

    Just seems like over kill.

Think of what we can do without fear of over-zealous moderation, Hop.... :D

The only problem I actually see...is will be difficult to recreate what we have here, somewhere else.

We tried it with the Star Trek Legacy boards after Bethesda shut them down...It's still around...but not exactly very active...

Wait, the game isn't how much horror can we unleash before the mods spot it?

I made it a personal rule long ago any interaction with a Hort would in a safe public place. O.o

Thank you Dawson, I did look several times but didn't see the particular site linked. Will register tonight.

Don't worry Hort! That's proof she ignores me too. :p

32 posts about a private external forum, and no one has accused anyone of elitism yet? This can not stand.

Hazard, you are an elitist snob.

I don't ignore you, sometimes my filter incorrectly identifies posts and messages as Hortly and blocks it. We are working on revamping the filters though. For now refrain from words even mildly perverted.
