Last night Plastics.com and our sister site Plasticoperators.com and a couple other business sites I either own or work with were TRIBBLE.
Mostly vandalism nothing more. Passwords and secure information is stored on a separate server behind multiple racks of security blink'n-lights and layers of software... But I just spent since 4AM mass-emailing our clients anyway warning them of the breach. I am 250% sure the secure server wasn't touched but I am advising everyone to change passwords.
That is the point of this posting CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS WEEKLY. You say it's too hard to remember new passwords? Well let me show you how I generate passwords.
Please note these are retired passwords that I'll never use again they serve as examples only.
STEP ONE:
Find an aspect of your favorite hobby... your job... or some other aspect of your life and pick a dozen or more words related to that. I do mold-making so I used "types of machines" that a mold maker would use.
DRILL_PRESS
MILL
LATHE
GRINDER
SAW
WELDER
BLANCHARD
WATER_JET
STEP TWO:
Numerical sequence. Use at least four digits that you can remember. My lover she uses parts of her birth date. 10-02 for this example. On the first week of the month she uses that. Second week she multiplies 1002 by two. Then on the third week she multiplies it by 3... then four.
Use a four digit numerical sequence that you can remember... and every week of the month tweek the number slightly.
STEP THREE:
Upper-case letter. So far... lets use DRILLPRESS0211 as an example. I type it in with the FIRST letter upper-case... and when I tweek my numerical sequence I add another letter at the very end. When I did the mold maker tools I used the middle initials of my family members. So that gives me 16 letters to chose from.
So here we have Drillpress0211A. That's a fairly secure password for most applications.
Now... when I change passwords I write a hint and put it in a text-file on my desktop. For this example the hint was "makes holes in metal... Janice's birthday... Uncle Bob's middle name."
Under no conditions do I recommended keeping the ACTUAL PASSWORD typed out and stored on your computer. Nor do I recommend using services like Passmark or X-Mark to store passwords for your sites. It's only a matter of time before the hackers start mining those sites for data. Lastly anything involving credit card or banking info... use the MAXIMUM PASSWORD SIZE for that site. If they give you 15 characters USE THEM ALL. Longer passwords are harder to hack.
Hopefully many of you will be " stfu I already know this ****."

If I only help one person I've had a very good day indeed.
Thank you for your time I'll be up for some PVP this evening around 8PM EDST.
