Any definition will include some of my favorites:
1. Captain America
2. Batman
3. Spiderman
4. Raven
5. Deadpool
6. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
7. Colossus
8. Night Crawler
9. Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)
10. The Question
Honorable mentions for Power Girl, Oracle, and Nightwing.
But I also really like a number of non-traditional heroes. Could anime characters count?
Mai Tokiha (Mai-verse)
Nao Yuuki (Mai-verse)
Ami Mizuno (Sailor Moon)
Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach)
Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach)
Uryu Ishida (Bleach)
Yomiko Readman (ROD)
Kimiko Arisato (Persona 3 Portable)
Minato Arisato (Persona 3)
Robert Smith (Big O)
How about moderately villainous characters like Magneto?
Freakazoid
Batman
Iron Man
Captain America
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan version)
Deadpool
Roland Deschain (Hey, he's a Marvel character now. He counts!)
Gambit
And now for superheroes that I absolutely can't stand:
Superman
Spiderman (Odd, since I love spiders)
Cyclops
Thor
In the 60s, it was Batman.
In the 70s, Iron Man (Spider-Man a close second).
In the 80s, the X-men (if I had to pick just one, it would be Cyclops.)
In the 90s, I got sick of all the spin-offs and multi-title crossovers/big events and stopped reading comic books.
In the 00s, gonna go with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The Avengers rekindled my interest in comic book super heroes, but Marvel these days... ugh. Make mine DC.
In the 10s, so far it's Power Girl.
The Last Son of Krypton,
The Man of Steel
The Man of Tomorrow
Kal-el himself
SUPERMAN!!!!
Though honorable mentions go to Green Lantern The Sandman (Wesley Dobbs and Dream)
I dont really read Marvel, I cant get into their comics. Ive started with Civil War and now reading through Death of Captain America but can any marvellites out there recommend any other comics?
Oh... to the OP - at a guess Kara Zor-el AKA Supergirl?
Bonus points if you can accurately guess mine... lol
Well that's tough. Is it Kara Zor-El (Moder Comics version), Kara En Ze (DC Animated version). Kara Zor-El(Pre Crisis on Infinite Earths (My personal favorite of all Super Girl Versions)), Linda Danvers (Earth Angel Supergirl(former Matrix Supergirl) or the early 90's Matrix Supergirl? Hmmm...then again...your shirt has a purple hue....Bizarro Supergirl perhaps?
As a child I was a huge fan of Superman. Had my Superman Underoo's and blue longjohns with red socks and a nylon cape that was a choking hazard. Frizzy curly hair didn't really help others see me as the man of steel, but I was so far in my imagination it didn't matter. (Pictures withheld only due to lazyness.)
As an adult I think my favorites are Batman and Spiderman. There's more to their character than the last son of Krypton or many others. I think it was the Spiderman 2 game that cemented the web head as an all time favourite. Being able to do almost everything a Spiderman does for the first time in a video game was so much fun. I think if they could make a Superman game as good as Spiderman 2 I could revert back to my childhood.
My favorite growing up was Jubilee. I only watched the `92 cartoon though. I tried getting comics, but then realized there were a bazillion different x-men series and gave up.

For myself it's: CatWoman (all nine lives
Notable mentions for on screen actresses~
(Eartha Kitt ~ Merrrow)
(Michelle Pfeiffer)
The only other hero whom stays with me through the years is: Cutter
(See if anyone else is a fan and can tell me where he's from.)

Well paced action, tons of humor and a real mind TRIBBLE of a plot. It is so chock full of win.
I didn't realize this at that age, but, after re-watches of the series, I totally got a crush on Batgril .:o
As of now, probably still Batman [Christian Bale's portrayal] or Superman [in my opinion, played best by Dean Cain from "Lois and Clark"]
Though I haven't seen this season of "Smallville"; for all I know, Clark became Superman by now.

Hulk is pretty close on the list.
