At one point in time, I copied my Armada II CD to my hard drive to save it for the future.
I am trying to install it and I'm running into some problems. I've never used a "crack," but I downloaded something called a no cd crack for this game, assuming it would allow me to run it from a hard drive. The installation starts but says:
"the program cant start because binkw32.dll is missing from your computer"
then it tells me to reinstall...
Does anyone have any experience in installing this game that could help me out? Thanks.
I burnt it to a disc, and it auto-runs. I click on install, and the demshield thingy comes up, then it just doesn't do anything else.
I do have 7 and have checked the compatibility mode.
I have the legitimate disk still and it does the exact same thing to me irregardless of what compatibility I have it in, 7 hates it. May be my SLI or 64 bit, but it HATES IT
Installing the game in safe mode allowed the install process to WORK! yay (sort of).
So, after trying to launch the game, it mentioned that several dll files were missing. I added the one it asked for to the Windows/System folder. Then it asked for 2 more. After I did those, I tried to launch the game. It did not prompt me for any missing files anymore! yay (sort of).
Now, it doesn't prompt me for anything, and just won't start. =(
If I try to launch from the folder on my computer it says it's not a valid win32 application. =(
I tried the patch project. It launched the game and I was happy! Then it said it couldn't find the disc in the drive. It was in there...oh yes, it was in there. =( this is futile.

Did you just copy and paste the CD to your hard drive, or did you make a cd image backup? As far as I remember Armada II doesn't have any kind of securom or other such nonsense on it, so as long as you made an actual image you should just be able to mount it on a virtual drive no problems.

Oh, and if you have 7, it ain't gunna run.
I have 7 and it runs just fine. Just need to run it in compatibility mode for XP SP3

I'm making progress...but still can't launch it.

Or just get the Fleet Ops mod itself, which is superior to the original game anyway

You would have had to make a CD image from the start for it to work. Basically clone the disk.
In other news, Armada II is only $90 on ebay!
