From where do you play? Branson, Mo
Who is your ISP? CenturyTel
Do you have a regular drop-off and if so, around what time? Dropping quite frequently, it doesn't seem to be tied to any particular time of day, this has been going on for about a week or two. When I'm in game and connection is lost I'll have a red timer counting up for varrying amounts of time in between a few seconds and >minute, and then I'll drop to the login screen. This sometimes happens immediately upon logging into the game.

Have tried all the typical things, such as checking for overheating and driver updates, it all looks good to me.
Have probably lost connection to the game a dozen or so times tonight, have maintained connection to the internet in general without interruption throughout this evening.

Most of my fleet is local and I see them on a regular basis, a couple of them have different ISP's and have been having similar drop-offs, I can get information from them if it will help you.

Lemme know if there is any more information I can provide.

Ok. lets go waaay old school (back to STO launch).

http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe Run that as an admin in windows and post yoru results. It will tell us whether your ISP is restricting your access to the servers in any way.

It's not guaranteed but it's good to eliminate every possible cause.

    Hello there!

In this thread we had a number of users who reported they currently experience slow game connections as well as random disconnects while playing.

If you have noticed that your game is very laggy after connection and that during play you randomly drop off the game, please give your feedback and updates here.

An example of a posting that can really help us indetify your problem is here:

    Hello WishStone,

I would just like to share with you that several (as in over a dozen) of our fleet members are experiencing random disconnects to the game (at least on the Holodeck shard) since the last patch couple of patches. These include players from the US (various locations within), Australia, and the UK.

    In my case:

    *Further information:

In the past 24 hours I have only had 1 seemingly random disconnect, but the day prior I had numerous disconnects (only in STO). I have been having quite a bit of "rubber banding" going on continuously since the last couple of patches including the latest one, and several fleet members have reported the same problem.

I have a new DOCSIS 3 cable modem. I have no lag or problems in any other online game I play, and am not experiencing latency problems with websites/downloads, IM, e-mail, etc. As far as I am able to tell, the problems only occur with Star Trek Online. I have contacted my ISP and they say all my signals look good.

I can stream HD movies/TV shows, music, etc. from Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, etc. without any noticeable problems.

I ran a speed test my ISP provides and here was my result: http://tinypic.com/r/11t4rpf/7

I also ran a test from www.pingtest.net and the result: http://tinypic.com/r/6tec1x/7

    Config:
    Win7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit
    8 GB RAM
2 TB disk space (7200 RPM SATA)
1 GB DDR5 AMD Radeon 4980 PCIe with latest drivers
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad CPU

    DxDiag.txt attached

    I hope this helps. :)

P.S. This corresponds to STO Ticket #1100313.

I talked to NetOps about this. While it is possible, the big problem is that this also skips the patcher. We have had problems with users trying to connect without fully patched clients previously and we would rather not give out this information. While it is possible, it can cause big issues. Sorry. :\

We're monitoring the Proxys while this is ongoing. They can help, but they, to, need to route their way to us and are not an immidiate link to the servers.

Fortunately the random disconnects have stopped for me (thus far anyway) today. I am still getting some rubber banding and semi-severe chat lag at times (sometimes as much as 15 seconds delayed) and I still periodically get "server not responding" on the screen.

Hm, so there might still be something happening. As the evening continues, let us know if things go worse. That's when traffic picks up on both the server and the local internet here in the US.
If it gets really bad, may we trouble you for another tracert, please?

Same here as having difficulty staying connected.

Tracert shows pretty normal 40-50ms jumps through to te9-8.ccr01.lon01.atlas.cogentco.com
    then it goes:

    7 197 ms 198 ms 202 ms te0-3-0-4.ccr2.bos01.atlas.cgentco.com
    8 191 ms 189 ms * te4-2.ccr01.bos06.atlas.cogentco.com
    9 202 ms 194 ms * 38.111.40.114
    10 * 201 ms 198 ms 208.95.185.41

So from my interpretation here there seems to be a problem in the line to boston data centre somewhere.

    Edit: 2.0Ghz Q8000 processor
    location: UK
    Windows 7
    2.0Ghz Quad core processor
    4 GB RAM
1GB Nvidia 9600M GS graphics card
    ISP: Plus.net
    Speed: 5Mb

And forums are now painfully slow too.

I'm sitting here staring at the netgraph data in-game, and my ping hovers around 200, then spikes to over 3k, then drops back down, then back up, ad nausem. It actually seems to be a pretty steady pattern.

server seems like its getting worse with every passing minute. My ship is warping in and not responding to commands for a few minutes. Loading screens are taking forever. The whole time my skill boost is just ticking away. It sucks when 1/5 or 1/6 of your skill boost time is wasted on long loading screens or servers not responding.

Could you run tracerts for us so we can track down where the problems start happening?

Sure if you would care to walk me thru how to do that i'd be happy to post it. But I still don't understand what my net stuff has to do with all the cryptic oops that have been occurring today.

well depending on your windows version getting to the comand prompt is different but if your on win 7 go to all programs, accessories, then command prompt.

from that point its tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com then hit enter. The data that comes up is what they're after. if you see * don't panic, several things could be going on, if you see very high MS or lost connections, thats a problem. if you see one of those post up the connection just before the lost one, so they can start at that point.

Sure if you would care to walk me thru how to do that i'd be happy to post it.

    Basically just do this:

Open a Command Prompt (Click Start, Run, type: cmd) and type:

    tracert patchserver.crypticstudios.com

    also

Download and run: http://files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe (this is provided by Cryptic/Atari)

Copy and paste the results of each into a post in this thread.

It wouldn't hurt to run PingTest and SpeedTest either and attach screenshots of the results, or link to them with something like tinypic.com

You can also run DxDiag (from Start, Run) and click "Save all information" and it will save into a text file which you can attach to show your system configuration / driver info, etc. if you want.

The most important pieces of information for this would probably be the tracert and nettest results.

I have had one case so far today of "server not responding" but less overall rubber banding/lag than yesterday.

I'll edit this post with my tracert info once i figure out how to or someone helps inform me how to post it/ keep the results window from closing

Make sure you're opening a command prompt, then running tracert, not running tracert from Start, Run.

They can help, but they, to, need to route their way to us and are not an immidiate link to the servers.

one question for some strange reason i get not every time (say i open the client a few times per day) but happens during the first time the client is opened for the day a certificate revokation (and this part might be a tad strange from GoDaddy.com certificate is embedded in the game client ) why or how did that get in there thats when i noticed having the rubber banding effect sometimes it ranges from about 5 to 20 seconds but the security certificate how and why that started must of been a few weeks ago

    can u elborate on this

That is a different issue than this thread is about. Please post your issue in a new thread so we can keep this thread on the same topic it is intended for and track your issue separately (unless you find an existing thread that your issue is basically identical to).

Have been on a little bit today, haven't been d/c'ed once. The recent patch seems to have solved my connection woes. Thanks to whoever figured out the right buttons to press.
