Thought I'd pop my head round the door, having played STO for just over 2 weeks now, I figured it would only be appropriate to introduce myself here first before invading other threads.
In game my name is Lucien-Dallows, I've just managed to gain Rear Admiral rank 1 in game with a Tac/Crusier character, it's been a fun couple of weeks!
I've learnt a lot about the game and various mechanics and still am learning, I guess you could say I'm an Admiral Noob.
I played Star Wars Galaxies about 7 years ago now on the Chilastra server, had a lot of fun playing that over the 2 years and a bit I played, but gave up on it when Jedi just seemed to be everywhere, originally when I started playing they were a very rare thing to see!
I'm finding STO quite fun, very different to SWG, I've been playing PVE mostly at the moment, although look forward to trying out some PVP very soon, once I'm happy with the spec on my Sovereign that is.
Apparently I've already made a faux par in choosing a Tactical base for my Cruiser captain instead of Engineering, probably explains why in my Exploration class I lost shields when the paint got slightly scratched !
It's been a fun few weeks playing STO and I hope it continues, from what I've seen and read on here the designers at Cryptic do seem to take on board the views and opinions of the players of STO more than the designers on SWG did, never a bad thing as we do pay the subscription fee!
Welcome Lucien. Relax, have fun and remember a few rules.
1. Don't pet the Hort
2. Check the trees for ninjas
3. Don't Nom the Chat
4. Don't commit to a territory war in 10Forward.
5. Don't flash cleavage to Vrano
6. Don't get into a staring contest with the angry red eye. It'll win every time.
7. Bacon rocks, bring plenty for everybody.
8. be prepare to be abused at least once.
9. Panda. Cuddle at your own risk.
10. water off a duck's back.
Welcome, welcome!
Don't mind the regulars in the 10-Forward forum; they are nice if a little crazy. If yopu have questions, don't hesitate to browse or post in the Academy forums!
Bare in mind that every time you gain a new rank after reaching Lieutenant, you gain access to higher grade stuff, so you can never truly be completely prepared for PvP until a couple of days / weeks after reaching the maximum rank.
So in my opinion, best to get stuck into PvP as early as possible, just to get your head around how it all works, then you'll have a better understanding of the mechanics.
Lastly, if you enter PvP and find yourself defeated easily, don't be afraid to ask the other players for tips on how to improve your performance or jump on the forums, look for the PvP section. The Klingons prefer a challenge, so many of those players will happily help you improve.

Welcome to STO Admiral Lucien-Dallows! My first, and will always be my favorite, character is a Tac/Cruiser. It's really quite a combo, actually. I've since made a dozen characters (inc my KDFers), trying various combos. Frankly, Fedside, I think the off-base ones, specifically: Tac/Cruiser, Sci/Escort, Eng/Escort, are my favs.
Anyway, take your time, enjoy the game. Realize that there is a HUGE learning curve between PvE (even "Elite" level) and PvP. As others have mentioned, read the forums, ask questions, take a breath, and have fun. Oh, and die a few times. It'll happen a few (million) times.
A great big welcome! You've taken a toon as far in the game in 14 days as I have in 200. That's intense! Then again, I spend waaaay too much time at the tailors... Hope you enjoy the game as much as I have.
Being sick for a week and only working 4 days a week ( I work shifts at an Airport) has helped me immensly in getting to Admiral so quickly.
That and i'm saving for a holiday so the less opportunity I have to go shopping at the weekend means I have more money in the bank...hence I shut myself in the computer room when i'm off shift!
things you should know about me.

Welcome to 10 Forward, the SANE place on the forums, where the laws of time, space and logic generally do not apply.
To help you fit in, there are 3 factions in 10F: the supporters of Empress Ravenstein, the supporters of High Priestess Capulet and the "mehs", which stay neutral and hope neither of the rulers notice you.

And above all else: Have fun.
Not in my experience. If you don't subscribe to their particular brand of craziness (I don't), then they are quite nasty.

It's true...they will feed you to the shark.:p
*snap!* Have you eaten today? I knew something didn't get done.
I'm sorry. It was my day to feed him....
Why so serious?
I'd offer you some peanut brittle, but I gorged myself on it already. NOM.
No one ever pets hort anymore....
Welcome, new person! See the thread in my sig to maximize your fitting in-ness here.
Welcome to Ten Forward and to STO, Lucien! Here is your monogrammed straight jacket and your WishStone voodoo doll!
(Oddly enough the voodoo dolls don't seem to work. We haven't found out the reason why yet.)

At least you had your name in Cappy's 10 rules.
