Starship Specials

I have not had the chance to read the latest Engineering report and this may have been mentioned.
For those who have played Star Trek Armada and Armada II, you must have a certain level of respect for the special abilities that are equipped to some of the ships.

I just wanted an opinion from the fans on weather you would like to see some of these specials, weather or not they are possible.

Now some of these specials have already been seen in the game, e.g. Galaxy Saucer Separation. and Intrepid Cloak. etc
But would it be possible to add some of the lower starship tiers with these abilities to make them unique e.g. Akira with the Chain Reaction Pulsar or the Steamrunner with Engine Overload.
The same ethic works for Klingon's as well, Gravity Mines for the Birds of Prey

It is understandable we might only want them on the higher tier ships, for example the Sovereign could have the Corbomite Refractor.
By the same standard we could equip smaller 'scout' type vessels with enhanced sensors, that can seek out certain anomalies that larger starships cannot, this would be good for adding a 'scouting' outlook to the game with the smaller ships being used more.

Please post your comments and opinions as i am very interested as to weather iam a raving man man or not!!
Most importantly. HAPPY HUNTING.

I like the idea of every ship having its own special which are all based around the deflector dish because they always are in Star Trek:D

On a side note you could have posted this in the regular discussion forums rather than Ten Forward ;)

I like the idea in general, especially since it would more individual appeal to the ships, and make the direct Federation and KDF counterparts (Escorts vs Raptors for example) for different without messing with consoles and BO slots.
I'd like those big Heavy Photons the K't'inga was equipped with in Star Trek The Motion Picture, you know the K't'inga's torpedo launcher is three decks high so those must be some really heavy caliber torpedoes.:D

    http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090525062206/memoryalpha/en/images/a/a4/IKS_Amar_firing_forward_torpedo.jpg

(Just compare the size of the launcher to the size of the windows.)

However I'd like to point something out regarding specials from "Armada":
According to one of the recent "Ask Cryptics" it appears that they are unable to reference games from other companies right now.
They're trying to get permission from CBS to do so, however if that goes as well as the thing with the Kzinti I wouldn't hold my breath.

So we'd have to come up with our own special abilities for those ships that were in "Armada" and had some, at least where those special abilites are not based on canon Trek and are Activision Oringinals, like the Chain Reaction Pulsar or Corbomite Reflector.
The Nebula is already an example since she has a special skill she did not have in Armada and the Detection Thingy does not collide with "Armada" since it was in canon Trek as well. (Redemption pt. 2)

    I hope this makes sense.

    Nothing leaves 10F! NOTHING!!!

I think special abilities on ships would be okay to make them unique. The BoP already has a battle cloak though, that's probably special enough for that.

I have done several copyright law studies and it CAN be argued that the name of the device/subject in question can just be the name itself. it would take some research but it may come to the special abilities doing either the same thing with a different name or something VERY similar with a different name. Either way there is some flexibility with what we can work with

I say we lol that Cryptic can work with

Blarg, copyrights shouldn't be a problem in this situation. For cruds sake, when people look up the ability it'd be free advertising for ST Armada! What'd be the problem with that!?! Lawyers are annoying....

Specials Ravenstein would like to see:

Miranda refit: All come equipped with a Genesis device, allowing them to destroy every ship that does not have a Vulcan Bridge Officer.

Constitution-refit-refit: Has been refit so many times that there are systems buried in this vessel that nobody even remembers were installed in the first place. Has a special button you can push will cause any number of helpful or harmful effects. Sometimes your ship explodes. Sometimes you fire an insta-kill phaser beam.

Sovereign-refit: can fire a volley of quantum torpedoes. Ship however can never finish a battle above 50% hull.

Star Cruiser-refit:A swarm of R2 units can repair the ship mid-fight

Dervish-refit: Can cause flame wars on contact

Prometheus-refit: Can be piloted by an EMH and will perform better then possible while under the control of a player.

Luna-refit: Has a Horta engineer like in the Titan books. He doesn't do anything, but he is there.

That actually had me laughing quite a bit. Insta Kill Phaser or Self Destruct. I like those odds XD
