Returning Player, 3 issues

Hello,

Was here at launch and for awhile afterward. Have been told there is much improvement since then and I had a retail version of the game still sealed, so remembering that retail cd-keys could be used for their additional gameplay time here in STO, I got it out and installed, and then tried to patch, which brought me to the first issue:

1.) You cannot patch without an active subscription. So, returning players are forced to pay and lose part of their time to patching, and since the patch from retail disc is nearly 5 gigs ... someone who wants to play over the weekend (like me, for example) will actually lose a lot of the time to patching. For folks who maybe can only play weekends (again, me), that could amount to as much as 1/4 of what they paid to reactivate their account going to waste because of patching. Seems like a simple enough solution to allow folks to patch before reactivation, imo. Bandwidth doesn't cost THAT much, especially if you already have the dedicated pipe and are paying for it whether it's being utilized or not.

But then, I saw that the lifetime sub was on sale, and I thought to myself "Great! I've got 30 free days to check and see if what everyone has been telling me about is true, and if it is, discounted lifetime sub when my 30 free days is up and it's time to bill." This is exactly how the LotRO lifetime upgrade worked, as my wife and I were on the 90 day plan there and we got what we paid for in time before the lifetime subs charged.

But ... I was charged immediately for the lifetime sub. That brings me to:

2.) If you are going to charge me immediately for my lifetime sub, then you probably should NOT also apply the additional cd key to my account, in effect robbing me of what I paid for it. That key could have been given to a friend to start a new account and give that friend 30 days free, or to my wife if she wants to try it out. Instead you have invalidated the key without giving me anything in exchange. I would like either the key to be re-validated or a new one issued to me, please.

Finally, way back when I registered on these forums, none of us had any idea our forum name would be presented in game at all times. I REALLY would like to get my forum name changed, and while when I was playing before it was reported that you guys will do that, I could never seem to get connected with the right person to get it done. I would greatly appreciate some instructions on how to get it done.

Best Regards,
Me

    I attempted to put in a ticket for the @handle change. As follows is what I attempted to submit:
    Hello,

    When I created this account back in October 2009, there was no indication that the forum handle would be shown in game at all. I created the @handle EasySleeze as a joke. Since the forum handle is used as the unique identifier for accounts in game, having the name "EasySleeze" inspires all sorts of negative responses. I never made an informed choice to be known by this name in game, and respectfully request to have my @handle changed, as @EasySleeze immediately makes people think I am a scammer/troll/currencyfarmer/etc.

    My preferred @handle's to change to as follows:

    @Dark
    @DarkWyndre
    @DarkWynd

    Unfortunately clicking submit gives the following error "You must supply a language" where there is no place to input a language. (I even opened up Internet Explorer (yuck) and tried doing it that way with the same result)

    Again, to reiterate, back during late beta/headstart when I created this account, it was not explicitly stated nor implicitly referenced in any way that the forum username selected would be used as an in game unique identifier.

    The bottom line is that no sane person would choose "EasySleeze" as their in game identifier. I've had loads of grief in game about it, and it's really silly to force someone to stick with an identifier in game that they didn't knowingly choose as their identifier in game.

    I have absolutely no problem with my forum identity being clearly linked to my in game identify, since that seems to be the goal here ... but I do have a problem with the fact that people see my handle and just assume I'm a spammer, troll, thief, gold seller, or worse ... without ever having met me. This handle has made me a target of grief, and I think that should warrant a change.

    In the upper right of the support pages there are 2 drop downs, one for location and one for language. Make a selection in each.

    I'm not sure about the retail key issue, etc. but I would suggest you give STO a shot, I think you'll be happy; but if not send a ticket to billing within the 30 days to see if you can get a refund of the lifetime. I'm pretty sure you used to be able to.

    I'm not bothered by the lifetime being an immediate buy .... I'm bothered by the cd code (which I paid $40 for back at launch time) got used up for no reason.

    Also, I go to http://www.startrekonline.com/tickets and I select billing, then click on the appropriate catagory, then type in @handle in the search box, and finally click on the create ticket link. There are no drop downs anywhere.

    They're pretty much handling all the support thru the Atari site now. Try this: http://www.atari.com/support/startrekonline

    Login is also your STO one.

    you suffer from taking the game to seriously. easysleeze. have you seen handles of gold sellers? its usually random letters. this negativity i would presume is all in your head.

    look at the variety of names on the forums half of them are nonsensical, yet people dont assume they are half the things you have claimed you they should for having a "i dont know "pc?" name"

    and quite honestly i dont see how youve had ingame grief, must be the people you hang out with/talk to. i have an alt with an @EHJFGHJNM kind of handle and ive had no grief at all. but if it will make your ingame experience better i hope they change it for you.

    The support chat representative very nicely helped me with the handle change and we're talking about the cd key now. Thank you for the help :)
