Instant crash BEFORE startup.

I double clicked on my Star Trek Online Icon and it asked me if I wanted to allow it to connect to the Internet. It has not done this before. After allowing it to connect I get a popup saying it's crashed. Here is a copy of the info. The Loader does not even start to load it just crashes instantly. Any idea?

Cryptics error tracker listed below is NOT working either. My computer says port 80 is blocked so it will not allow me to view that websight yet all other websights allow me to view them. I just don't get it.

Can you please try updating IE and let me know if that resolves the issue?

    Thanks! :)

    EDIT:
And reading the stack, it looks like your video cards could be suspect, so please make sure you've got the updated drivers for them.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble.

This crash is related to your video driver. It looks like there is a possibility this is due to out-of-date video drivers. Can you confirm that you have the most recent drivers for your video chipset?

    Just a tip,
Use a driver cleaner, like driver cleaner pro, to remove all existing video drivers and then install the newest drivers. installing over old ones can cause issues of which ones to load properly.....at least in my own experiences.

I verified I have the most up to date version of IE by trying to download the newest version from Microsoft.com and it said the version of IE9 I have is the most up to date.

I tried to update my Video card driver from Lenovo websight and it also said I had the most current. I verified this with ATI websight.

I have been playing for over a year with no issues then all of a sudden this.

I'm not sure exactly what happened. I tried rolling back windows to before this and that has made no difference.

If you still think it's the video driver could you give any additional information?

Thanks for all your help so far it is appreciated!

I managed to fix my problem--temporarily. I had someone send me their launcher. They renamed the exe to allow iot to be emailed.

Then i renamed it and replaced mine. it worked for a while.

Then it rolled back. and then "star trek online.exe.deletethis" would spawn each time. same w champions.

    trekkie_bbs,

Your DXDiag reports you have a "Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express" GPU, not an ATI (and, also, it is the a 3 year old Intel integrated graphics driver on your system which is crashing). If you have a dual-GPU setup (some newer laptops allow using a high-power ATI chip while plugged in to a wall outlet, and the slower low-power Intel GPU while on battery), perhaps Direct3D is talking to the wrong one (even if just momentarily). Try updating your Intel graphics driver, and that may resolve this issue.

As for why this is happening now, we recently added some (theoretically harmless) code which asks Direct3D what version it supports, and the Intel driver is crashing on this (presumably because it pre-dates the existence of Direct3D 11 or something like that).

Well is updating our graphics card the only way of fixing the issue?

This is my model sony vaio

    VGN-FW235J

problem is-there hasnt been an update for the driver for the vid card sin ce 2008. It's non compatible w standard intel chipsets.

My vaio care cannot lopcate updates and i manually searched using my model. Other intel drivers for same intel 4 family chipsets wont work. I ams stuck where i'm at until i can eventually afford a new system.

I had this issue with city of heroes. I was unable to adapt to aa update they did that required a vid card update. This may have boxed me into a non playable corner.

Update- okay this is REAL wierd!

I got it going again by fooling with multible copies of the sto launcher..i moaved their locations in the folder and changed extensions to exe back from another--if u have 2 launchers with exe for some reason..and this mystifies me-it works.,

The error logs said it was getting the spawned "exe delete" instantly cancelling the launch of game-like something was "deflecting it". 2 exe files must have over rode this being in 2 different locations?

This does not seema a vid card issue. I am in sto now, but when i log out if like last time, i will be at square 1.

callback null errors and spawned exedeletethis copies of sto's launcher- i'm an amateur at these things but it seems like the launcher is telling itself to halt updating because it needs to be deleted.

It's sending some kind of false positive that the launcher itself is a bad file. Am i off?

UPDATE i have managed to relaunch the launcher client now 3x no issues. I rawk. TY.

We're currently in the process of testing a code work-around for the buggy graphics driver. As soon as we're sure everything is OK, we're going to get a new launcher out to you guys that resolves the problem. The general time-frame for releasing the fix is some time next week.

I'm sorry this happened; driver issues like this are a veritable minefield every time we make any kind of minor change. We're working as quickly as possible to get this resolved; we just need to be sure that our fix is completely effective and doesn't tickle the affected driver in some other way that would upset it.

Appreciate the rapid responses. My client is currently launching NP i actually "couldn't" get in with the direct launcher you speak of , it would try to connect after password and timeout.

Ok, this is too technical for me, but can anyone tell me if there's been any kind of update to the server timeout problems? I've been trying to get in for days, and it's just not happening. I'm getting quite upset. STO IS compatible with IE9, right??? I've done a complete factory reset on my PC, and still no joy...

some people have reported problems with IE 9 (i suspect it with a change in the MSHTML security setting) and had to roll back to IE 8 to get the game to work.

After dealing with this issue with a friends system and talking to someone that professionally works in this area we went in and right clicked on the star trek game icon and went into properties and with running vista on our system with an intel chip we went into the compatibility tab and check mark run this program in compatibility mode and changed it to windows 98/windows ME as the Windows XP service pack 2 did not work. It works great now and no issues starting up. So possiblty you can use this until the update is done to the launcher.

    Hope this helps,
    Kalara
