A little unwanted vacation from STO

Since the last two patches hit STO I have been crashing each time I get in a fight on any ground map. Updating my drivers has yielded no improvement. Until I get this sorted out or STO stops hating ATI cards I will be limited to forums or dance parties. :(

Sorry to hear about your computer problems, Capulet, but I hope everything works out! :)

The good thing about being a Lifetime member, though, is that you don't have to worry about losing time. :D

Well, at least you can still come to dance parties.

    Hope it gets resolved soon.

Noo! Who will protect me from the Tellarite infestation or act as a meatshield for my KDF character?

I'd been semi-following the ATI crashes here (even though I use a GTX 570); and it seems the 11.3 drivers had fixed a lot of the crashes ATI users have reports since launch. You using those, Ms. Capulet?

Huh. Hope you get it figured out. I'm running ATI/AMD cards on both of my systems and I have yet to see any issues.

yup 11.3 drivers on a ATI Radeon 4550 HD. the bugger of it is I could have grabbed a better card when I got this one. I didn't seeing how this card was at that time STO's recommended card.

I know when i beta tested Champions on line i had a ATI 800 XL and until LIVe i never had crashes then they coded the extra eye candy with their proprietary engine and it did strange things to the handling of

3D3 direct draw for me.. memory leaks dint happen until I went to STO live.. The crashes and dust bunnies
Killed my card in December.. I liked ATI but went back to a nvidia.. still memory leaks.

IT should be compliant w Direct X standards .. Mean its new Total War series has Nvidia as a preferred card
and it has an auto optimize and calibrate built right in.. We dont get that here. .

I really want to see the Test Bench machien stats they use to make the list. .cause later after many issues
they say oh we approved your rig card until we changed otu minds on min Recommended.

I am sorry to hear about your computer problems, Capulet! As someone whose computer dropped dead for more than a month earlier this year, I can empathize (thank goodness for tax refunds or I'd still be out of commission).

Best of luck resolving the problem(s)!

Hmm, I am using an ATI 4850 card with no issues.

Then again I am not using the 11.3 drivers. I am using the 11.1s it seems.

Do you have your graphics set up to the max? i have a HD 5770 and even that struggles on highest settings because of the dynamic lighting and all that stuff.

try turning the graphics down a touch and see if that helps

also the usual; try force verify, and try changing your proxy from US, EU or None and see if that works?

also any new firewalls been installed lately? sometimes they can slow the game down

Oh, I just saw I am running 10.10 drivers. :p

Edit: My driver is up to date, I just never installed the new Catalyst program. I forgot I tend to back end my drivers. Try installing the latest driver for your card manually. My computer crashes every time I try to install the Catalyst program, but it has no problem installing the drivers by themselves.

If you have to, restart windows in safe mode. That will usually default to the integrated graphics while you update the drivers for your card.

Strange - the 11.3 drivers seemed to fix most issues. If you are running with 5 dynamic lights, try setting it to 3, since that was the original source of ground crashes. There is a thread in the Graphics Bugs section with a demo you can run to test for crashes and send the report to Cryptic. (In case you haven't seen that.)

ATI card and game crashes? Try turning off dynamic lighting and post processing.

I have resigned myself to a rebuild. Time to break away from XP anyways. Windows 7 black here I come, be gentle. I7 processor, 8 gigs ram, and a monster card. I may just bat my eyes at a techie in the office and let him build it. Maybe not. Either way a bit of savings is aside still a smidgen more to scrape together before I have enough for all the parts and OS.

People may rag on Windows...but 7 is the best they've come out with in a while. I rather enjoy it.

    Check out this website: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

Also, HP makes some pretty good desktops that can handle STO easily: http://www.hp.com

Then there is the always venerable: http://www.alienware.com/

I personally am using an HP Pavilion Elite running an AMD Phenom2 x4 with 8GB RAM. (upgradeable to 16GB)

I agree. I, personally, have suffered less problems on 7 than XP.

I agree, I haven't had nearly the trouble with Win 7 Home that I did with Vista. I also updated to IE 9 over the weekend (for reasons other than curiosity). It's... really strange compared to IE 8. Not hard to use, but the configuration is different.

Capulet, are you using a Tellarite captain or have a BOff that is one, by chance?

Nope, she doesn't. But fellow Ten Forwardite Ravenstein has a couple that she uses to torment players and NPCs alike. ;)
