Have you ever wanted to buy a new starship, console, or weapon, but you didn't have enough energy credits? I think that can be said for everyone who plays STO. In modern day, we have cruise ships that people pay to get on the boat and travel to different places. What of we incorporated this into STO. Instead of cruise ships, we have Star liners. You would purchase a Star liner from the Shipyard and you would choose a route to take. You could go from Vulcan to Andoria to Risa. Or from Earth to Regulus to the Briar Patch. The catch is, Star liners are massive. Some could be 3/4 of a kilometer long, so you would not be able to go faster than warp factor 3. At the end of your route, when you returned to Earth, you would receive a significant amount of energy credits. What makes it harder is that you might get attacked along the way by raiders. You would have to use your diplomatic skills or your combat skills. If you are an Ambassador, great, but if you a combatant, you will need support because a Star liner only has 3 weapon slots that are low-yield. But you can launch 5 peregrine class fighters and you have 1 Orion class Battle Support Ship (see next thread). The catch is, you only have 30 fighters for your trip, and you might run into many raiders. If you have too many attacks on your Star liner, you may lose energy credits at the end. Each Star liner has a Captain's Yacht that can be launched for a scientific scan of a planet. It might return with lots of data samples. Since there are families aboard your Star liner, you may have to do some counseling, which might become a skill in STO. Take a look at this Star liner-Oasis class.

Oasis Class Starliner
I appreciate ANY comments that you feel you want to share about this topic!
Watch out for my next post that will be discussing the Orion class battle support ship.

Sorry, its the first time I have done this, how do I make a hyperlink from something i scanned?

You have to right click on the link and press "Open link in new tab", to see it.

The picture won't load because the file name is the file name from your computer, with the C:\ and everything. For us to see the picture, you'll have to create an account with (or, if you already have done so, open your account with) Photobucket or ImageShack and upload the photo there.

Then copy the image link (ending in .jpg) and paste it here as a URL, which makes it clickable [and viewable] for us. :)

The address you entered only works on your computer.

The C:\ is your computer's harddrive.

In order for us to see something, you'll need to uplaod the image to the internet and then link to wherever it's stored.

You wouldn't want us accessing images and personal data on your hard drive.

Seem to remember a Futurama episode like this. We should get a credit bonus for veering between comets to get a break-neck speed boost and should get a new version of the TWoK uniforms for Humans and Saurians

Ya, I think that would be cool. i completely agree with the new uniform idea. I will try to make up a new uniform design. On cruise ships, they don't wear navy uniforms, they wear their company's uniform. This is an idea that should be incorporated. I have 3 other Star liner designs. The Apollo, Carnival, and Victory classes. I will upload them in my next thread.

I had another idea for Starliners. The Federation has an outreach program for civilizations in need. A starliner could carryout a relief effort on a planet to a greater extent than a regular starfleet ship could. Starliners would have at least 20 sickbays. There would be almost 5000 people on one. It would be good for planet-wide evacuations as well because of the amount of space. 4 or 5 starliners could evacuate a planet in a matter of days.

No problem! :) I just saw the picture; looks good, though, at first glance, the stack of round things with the holes on top resembles a stack of pepperoni pizzas. :p

But the design is very well done; definitely better than anything I could do. :D

I know it is not the best drawing, but those round things are supposed to be saucers. The Observation atriums at the top (7) of them, are basically Observation Domes that have blast doors. If you have ever been on the cruise ship, The Carnival Dream, they have an atrium overlooking the main lobby. Most malls, like the Eaton Centre in Toronto, have Glass domes in the main halls, the domes on the Oasis are supposed to resemble that. Thanks for the feedback though.

Thanks for your feedback President_Shinzon, I have designed a Starliner Captain uniform. I hope you like it.

I like this and more importantly when I think Star Trek I don't think of a constant war but the kind of missions you describe like the adding other races and such. Cyrptic needs to look into some of these ideas! :D

So, over the weekend, I have had time to think about features the starliner could have. Like a cruise ship, a starliner is not very maneuverable. Each starliner could have 4-5 tractor beam tugs. The player could deploy them if he/she needed to be more maneuverable. This would be like evasive maneuvers, only the turn rate is what is enhanced, not speed. Also, a starliner has many medical shuttlebays and 2 large shuttlebays. You might gain more energy credits if you help a ship in distress. Another type of currency, like emblems or marks of exploration could be Influence. You would gain influence if you helped a ship in distress or a planet/colony's evacuation. Influence might be traded in for emblems, or marks of exploration.

In response to the original idea... no. I have never really been at a loss for energy credits. They (and BO points) are so numerous at high ranks I have nothing left to do with them.

On the other hand, i do like the diplomatic aspect. However, no star liners or anything.

If they put in something like a courier system, or where you get missions to deliver an ambassador, you will do it in your ship.
No need to pay you for it, you are a starfleet captain. They just give you orders, not bribe you.

starliners would be awesome :) I really hope Cryptic looks into adding alternate career paths like this one for the players. Like the freighter capt idea in the other thread, it would give folks other objectives killing as many mobs as possible.

Zapp Brannigan uniforms would be super awesome, but I think the canon cops would riot if we saw that. They might be able to be made if Cryptic let male toons wear skirts. :D

Passenger Liners sound like a rather interesting idea, even if they were only NPC Ships.

However, the design you came up with doesn't seem to work for me. This would, however. :D:cool:

Oh yeah. That is a really good design. I know that my designs are a little basic, but they will be altered to look better. I think that your design should be called Empress class. Or if you don't like that, Victory Class.

Actually, it isn't mine. I just think it looks like it'd do really well in Star Trek. :) And it has a name already--It's called a C-3 Passenger Liner. :D:cool:

Well even if it is yours or not, it would still look good in the game. Also, feel free to come up with your own designs for this idea. I really want this to be something Cryptic takes a good long look at.

Yeah, the C-3 would look good in STO. :)

And I would come up with my own designs, but I can barely draw my way out of a paper bag--I'm much better with story ideas and technical specs, as long as I have an existing universe and framework to work from. :o

I like the overall concept here. However, the game already has a luxury starliner known as the Galaxy-class.;)

No offence or anything, but that accusation isn't entirely correct. Starfleet designed the Galaxy classto be capable of sustaining itself without the aid of starfleet for longer periods of time than most other starships, aka the Excelsior class. The Galaxy class is a ship for exploration, not exactly luxury. Yes, it is true that the Galaxy is more luxurious than most other starships, but that is because it is larger for families that need those recreational facilities. If you notice, the Galaxy class is labeled under Exploration cruisers, not luxury liners. Plus, in TNG, the Enterprise-D got into many skirmishes and battles with other factions. Starliners would not be in battle, with the exception of the Victory class Battle Command Starliner (I will post in a later thread). To come to conclusion, the Starliners would be a subdivision of Starfleet where officers needing to take a break could board. If you looked a the officer uniform that I had posted shows a different combadge than other starfleet officers.

Also, KiraYamato, you don't have to be good at drawing to make a good design. If you have Microsoft paint, which comes installed on your computer, you can use the basic shapes they have. I am re-doing all of my designs in Microsoft paint to give them colour. I am almost done the revised Oasis class.

Thanks for the tip, and I might give it a try sometime. :)

However, my statement of being much better with story ideas and technical specs, as long as I have an existing universe and framework to work from, still applies. :o

So over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday, I have had time to update the Oasisi class starliner. I have added bussard collectors, moved the warp core ejection port, reanimated it in colour and labeled it in classic star trek font. Please comment on it and let me know of changes you would like to see to it. I want this starliner to look really good.
