As you may have guessed (by the somewhat (not very) "cryptic" thread title) STO keeps crashing at the black screen with the word Cryptic, and the loading bar gets to between 15-25%.
It was working fine up untill the last update about a week ago.
Thinking it may have been a corrupted update, i deleted all the .hogg files and allowed it to redownload all the updated material. no luck. So i tried an uninstall and reinstall (from retail disk) and re-update (whew thats a lotta gigs in 2 days) and it still didnt work.
i tried the force verify option, also tried the safe mode option and updating drivers but no luck.
Oh, at each crash, the cryptic error reporter did its thing, i let it send each of the reports off, but i didnt keep the ID number of each, however i did it jsut again to grab this ID number if its of any help: 12308927.
Attached is my DxDiag.txt file, and for reference this comp is: Windows 7 32bit - HP Pavillion DV6 - Core i3 - 4gb ddr3 ram - Nvidia GT230M - more than enough hdd space - STO Install is a boxed retail copy.
Just to reiterate, it worked fine till the update about a week ago. - tried regetting the updates, tried updating drivers, tried a reinstall, tried messing with things, all to no avail.
Anyways - this is an official request for help!
Hopefully i dont have to write a sternly worded letter/email to someone at cryptic, because at this moment, im still paying my subscription!
Try disabling/uninstalling Airfoil. The crash you are having is inside Airfoil, which makes every application on your system load one of Airfoil's DLLs. Please post if that works.
Airfoil is a program to stream audio from your PC through your network to an airport xpress's audio out and from there to a stereo.
Airfoil wasnt running, and i didnt uninstall it, BUT what i did was i disabled airfoil's Instant HiJack feature.
That option is just to automatically steal a programs audio and route it to the airport
(however if Airfoil isnt running, then it doesnt hijack anything anyway! so i didnt think to check there!)
I guess the Instant HiJack option was what made all programs load that DLL, as you said.
So, you can still have AirFoil, just not on Instant HiJack mode.
Thank you so much for the help, as all the help AtariCustomerSTOSupport could offer was "Can you run it in admin mode?"...
