Tomorrow marks the first anniversery of the UBB Mine Disaster that claimed 29 lives and injured 2 others. This was the worst mine disaster in the United States in the past 40 years, and it claimed the lives of friends and family of those I know. Of the ones I can relate to the most, though I didin't lnow these men, 2 were graduates of my high school within the past 10 years and one was the brother of my Geometry teacher.
I don't have a link to a map currently, but Moncoal isn't that far from where I live, about an hour's drive from my house, give or take as I've never been there.
I'd like to think this thread as a kind of tribute to those lost in this mine explosion, and I kind feel it helps to spread the news of this as well.
Our local news paper pretty much has the full story on it, and an article in today's paper influenced this post. I'll link today's short article below, and the first news headline from a year ago as well.
Today's Article About the UBB One Year AnniverseryNewspaper Headline from a Year Ago
I'm not quite sure how to get a listing of the complete articles in chronological order, but below the article in the second link there is a link to all related headlines, I think 14 pages with the first on the last page, which is also the second link.
I'll hunt up tomorrow's newspaper article and post a link to it after it's added to the
Register Herald site.
