Hi there everyone,

Well I played the demo for STO and I absolutely loved it and so I bought the full game (only £5 including delivery which I thought was a bargain) and as this is my first MMO I decided to buy some new equipment for playing MMO's with so I have a new mouse (the Razer Imperator) and a new keypad (the Razer Nostramas). So I am kitted and almost ready to play.

Almost being the operative word here. I am currently awaiting the download of a 5gig patch boooooo so I have a wait yet. So I may as well ask some questions whilst I am here lol

1. So my game has a free 30 day sub and I have registerd a card for extra months if I get into the game a smuch as the demo. If or when I wish to cancel my sub how do I go about this. Will I need to call someone or can I do it in my account section?

2. Are there regular updates for this game and if so how big are they usually?

3. Am I going to need to spend a lot of money on micro transactions to get the mopst out of the game and are these episodes that I've read about pay to play or free?

4. In the demo I had a squad of AI characters. In the real game do I need to group up with real people or is it just a squad AI system?

5. In terms of the online community is it friendly or am I going to be continually killed for no reason other than I am a noob to start with?

6. Sorry for the questions lol

7. Are there any rules I need to know about such as naming my characters and ships etc? Can I use real start trek references or must I make up my own names etc?

Thanks for all the help people :)

    1. You can cancel by going to your "My Account" page. Link is in the upper right corner by the login fields.

    2. There are usually 2-3 MAJOR updates a year, called "seasons". Next one is season 4 set for some time in June, I think. In between, there are weekly updates for bugs/fixes, usually on Thursdays. Release notes for the weekly maintenance is found here:
    http://forums.startrekonline.com/forumdisplay.php?f=118

There are also content releases between season called "Featured Episodes" which come out weekly for about 4-5 weeks. The latest one was with Romulans/Remans, called "Cloaked Intentions".

    3. Most of the C-store stuff is cosmetic stuff. Uniforms, bridge lay outs, non-combat pets, etc. There are some ships there as well, but most of those CAN be obtained by grinding in game, and non of them are REQUIRED to play the game. You can play the entire game without spending a dime in the C-store.

    4. You will have AI (bridge officers) in the real game. In fact, you will keep your character and officers from the demo when you switch to the full version. But you can team up with other players as well for any mission. This is of course optional. There are only 5 missions at the end game which require a full team of 5 REAL players to complete. Everything else can by done by yourself and your AI controlled officers.

    5. There are currently no open PVP (player vs player) zones, so no one can kill you just because. You can, of course, join a PVP match if you want.

    6. We all had questions at some point.

    7. The game will not allow you use real star trek names, like James T. Kirk, or Enterprise.

    Welcome to STO.

    1. You can manage your account from the top of the page where it says "My Account"

    2. Pretty regular, the featured series are pretty awesome, thought there might be a bit of a content drought while they work on season 4

    3. The C-Store stuff is totally optional, like extra uniforms and stuff..

4.You can have AI away teams or friends

    5. Avoid Ten Forward at all costs, those people are totally non-helpful... err... wait..

    6. Thats okay, just don't let it happen again... lol

    7. There are plenty of Picards and Kirks floating around, as well as more than a few Shepards and Adamas... Originality and creativity benefit us all..

This public service reply brought to you by the nicest person on the forums ever... me..

Welcome to the game. Try not to understand the forums too much, or this will happen to you.

In relation to the section I have highlighted in Red. When I was playing the demo I wasnt taking it fully serioulsy and was messing around and trying things out. Do I have to carry over the same character from my demo OR can I start from scratch? I like to get involved and want to start a fresh lol

Cheers for all the help from everyone. Looks like a great community. Very much like the SWTOR crew (looking forward to that being my second mmorpg lol)

You don't have to use the character you created with the demo. You can start a new one to start fresh. The demo one will still be listed when you login though until you actually delete it.

You actually only have 2 starting character slots.

You get a third once you level up to LT 6 and unlock Klingon content. And you can use the 3rd slot for either fed or Klingon. Additional slots can be added from the C-store and one comes as a veteran reward.

To answer #5, the player base in this game is by far the most helpful, friendliest and entertaining community you're likely to find in any MMO. The people here in the Ten-Forward section of the forums may be a little insane, but over time, you'll come to appreciate our own particular brand of madness. :p Just stay away from Raven. She bites.

The only community that even comes close is the one found in FFXI, but as much as I love that game, the community in this game is enough to keep me coming back.
