Yes that song, no, not that version. Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon did a version of the song which actually doesn't sound that bad. Still - even if the video and the song was horrid, you still gotta give the teen credit for puttin' it out there in the first place.

Colbert = awesome.
Secondly, she didn't even write it, she's just more syndicated teen TRIBBLE. No credit, worst song ever. Period.

Even if she didn't write it, she still put her face on it. It's like getting up in front of a large group of people to speak for the first time. Either way, whether the song was written by her or not and regardless of its quality, it still takes courage to do something like that.
The way I see it (even though I was one of those who thought the song was horrible), she took a risk and a shot, and it missed and didn't work out. But at least she took it.
It would be even more amusing if she turned out to be in her 20's and the whole thing was an epic troll video.. made that bad just to get people to talk about it..

If 78 MILLION views is a MISS... I never want to write a HIT...
Think about it, how many other songs has stephen colbert covered on national TV? The girls a star now.. even if it doesn't last.. she's made her dent in pop culture...
Yeah but love it or hate it... people still watched it.. and if just 1 out of every 80 people that viewed it bought the song on iTunes... then that girl is a millionaire.. i know at least a couple people that have bought it because it was so terribly written.. not to mention every time it gets played on TV shows there are mechanical and licensing fees to pay...
Just saying, from the standpoint of someone in the same field.. the girl is doing alright for herself... or at the very least her production company is..
You know, I'm listening to both versions and the best way I can sum up the main reason as to why Colbert's version was much better than the original was just because it was a lot simpler. That's the best way I can think of to sum it up.

That vid works very nicely with the combination of Bieber's music and Slipknot actually, musically speaking. Can't quite say the same for the lyrics, but the two elements mesh together quite well.
I gave both versions another listen again since despite being up for 48 hours I'm still not hearing the call of Sleep, and for some reason my mind seems to be intent on figuring out why Colbert's version trumps RB's without simply saying that it's worse for the sake of saying it's worse.
Like I mentioned earlier, the version performed by Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert and Taylor Hicks sounds simpler than RB's version. It also doesn't have background singers, or any sort of additional audio effects aside from the Auto-Tune and what the band's got. Could just be me, but when I hear RB's version when she sings the "Friday" chorus, it strikes me as flat. Just plain flat. Empty, almost.
Difference could also be attributed to the fact that when RB did hers, it was with a company that was paid to produce this video, whereas the other version had experience on their side so it simply could've been a matter of experience in what works and what doesn't, lyrics notwithstanding.
If we're looking for a simpler version of why it's better....
RB's version is entirely synthetic; the background music, her singing....everything has had some sort of digital manipulation. The one you linked hasn't (more or less); it's people playing instruments. It has feeling.

193,725 of those people should be destroyed to help improve the gene pool.

Is it ok if I tell you that your friends are in a 4 seat car... They condemned you to the bus.
Take this with you.

RB's version (can't even bear myself to say THAT name) is just horrible.
