first if you are using a program called teamviewer shut it down.
second if using win7 or vista set the properties of the launcher exe and the gameclient.exe to run as admin
    thrid post your dxdiag report.

I put the dxdiag in original post.. problem still persisting. I have tried reinstalling, I completely removed teamviewer, and tried fiddling around with my gtx 460 settings to no avail. It particulary crashes at the gamma selection stage. Any help is appreciated, thanks

I had the same problem a few weeks ago and it popped up again today. Couldn't find the problem but it went away for some reason. All customer support did was insist it was my firewall even though my firewall was disabled and never had a problem before. STO customer support is terrible.

I remember the Devs stating there was an issue with Realtek sound chipsets under Win7 64 bit. Is there anyway you could disable your sound chipset (just for testing purposes) and see if the game loads?

Again, not suggesting this is a good or permanent solutio to your issues with the STO client, Just seeing if we can can naildown and/or eliminate possible causes.

Doing a reinstall fixed the issue but then it happened again just thirty minutes when I was disconnected. Thing is I have been playing since the 1st of March with no problems until the new patch came out. I will likely try a reinstall again and see if that works.
