2011 Macbook Pros

Hello Community

I currently have a 15" late 2009 model MacBook Pro with the 9400M video card. Bootcamped, I can run STO at minimal settings well enough, but using Crossover Games is proving to be pointless. While it runs, it's jittery even at 1/2 resolution and is unplayable.

That being said, I am looking to upgrade to a 2011 model. The only game I play is STO. I am looking at either the i7 13" that has the Intel 3000 HD GPU, or the 15" i7 model that has the Radeon HD 6490M card.

Has anyone had an opportunity to play STO on either of these machines? Either/or bootcamping or using Crossover/Wine, Parallels or VMWare...etc? I'd really like to get some actual impressions, since none of my investigating has really provided much information regarding STO specifically. I need to know if all aspects of the game are playable, at a reasonable graphics setting, i.e. medium+. Let's face it, the beauty of this game really helps make it what it is.

Comments on the high-end 15" with the Radeon HD 6750M are welcome as well, but I can't really justify $400+ just to play STO (as much as I love the game).

I have a really nice PC that I generally play STO on, so "get a PC" isn't what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance

The Intel HD 3000 is much faster than the geforce 9400, so it should be a noticeable improvement. I was on a geforce 320m not too long ago, and the HD 3000 is running STO and CO both about the same as the 320m did. I also have a 6750, so thats what i actually play with though, which is MUCH MUCH better... but i did test out the HD 3000 just for fun. I only use Wineskin, I do not have Windows installed, and have no plans to.

Hey, Im currently running it on my late 09 Unibody Macbook 2.26 C2D, 9400M, under crossover. The HD 3000 is suppose to be better but not by a huge amount but the i5 should be able to make up for that. If you want better gaming go at least the base 15" with the dedicated amd card

the Intel HD 3000 performance wise is almost double that of a Geforce 9400m :-) its close to the Geforce 320m, which is.. of course.. almost double that of a 9400m.

There are some limitations to the Intel though in some things it won't support right.... but for STO and CO, it seems to run fine.

I ended up picking up the 15" MBP with the 256MB secondary video card.

It runs better than my late model 2009 but not by very much. It's playable, but doesn't look all that great (This is using Crossover Games 10.x).

I'm having a problem creating a bootcamp partition, but once I resolve that I will be trying it out that way. I'm thinking it's going to be better running that way than within OS X.
